So the trade deadline has come and gone. Looking at only the deals made yesterday I think Dustin Penner going to LA was the biggest name, they did give up quite a lot to get him though. I really question that move on the part of Edmonton though Penner is only 28 and has said he would have been open to extension but it was never brought up by Edmonton. Edmonton is already a young team and they just got younger at some point as an organization you have to say the future is now, enough with the draft picks.

Did Buffalo do enough by getting Brad Boyes to get into the playoffs?

How about Carolina with Byan Allen?

Washingto making a push gets Denis Wideman and Jason Arnott?

What do you think

winners:
Boston - not on deadline day per se, but they added strength in all aspects.
LA - picked up the biggest weapon available.
Canucks - not huge deals, but they added depth where they needed it (bottom 6), for next to nothing.

Calgary got a depth forward and a depth defenseman for a 7th round pick - Nothing too exciting, but nothing to upset the apple cart either (and they actually have a first round pick in the upcoming entry draft).

Good work by Feaster.

Great work by Lombardi! Love the fact that this was no desperation run for the cup trade. This has long term written all over it. I have to emphasize how important this was to not give up any current roster players & the Kings also re-signed JW for a good deal. But for Penner, the Kings give up a late first-rounder in a weak 2011 draft, a third/second in 2012 (and the Kings do have the Leafs’ third round pick in 2012 as well, so almost a wash) and Colten Teubert? He wasn’t even the Kings’ best D prospect, so it is a BIG WIN!

Boston won overall, I'd say, and Washington and Vancouver did quite well for themselves as well. I also think the Penguins did an excellent job of acquiring more assets than they gave up. They got three proven NHL players, including two top-six wingers, for one offensive defenseman - who was their fifth defenseman at the time of the trade - and a conditional 7th round draft pick. Is the summed value of Kovalev, Neal, and Niskanen greater than the value of Goligoski and a sixth or seventh round draft choice? Hecks yes it is.

I can't say I saw any true losers on deadline day. Some teams overpaid, some teams let stuff go for a little less than they should have, but for the most part teams that made trades got what they needed. If I had to pick a loser, I'd say Phoenix. One of the guys on Versus made a comment that they made a "great pickup" in Klesla, because if he can "fulfill his potential" it's a steal.... uhh, sorry, but Klesla is a big, expensive, safe, stay at home defenseman. He's not creative, he's not Norris calibre, and EVERYONE knows he's never going to be what he was drafted to be, a franchise defenseman. We've known it for about five years now. He's not bad, but it's painfully obvious at this point in his career that what you see is what you get.

Rick Dudley made a lot of moves. However I have no idea if he helped his team with any of them. Oh yeah thanks for picking up Rob Schremp.

I know people have made a big deal about the Kaberle trade but getting Peverly is going to be just as important.
