I hate this deal. I'm assuming Mojo is done and this is to replace him but coughing up a 2nd for a rental is not a move I would have made. One less asset we have moving forward. Just a dumb move.

Assuming it ends up in the middle of the round (43-48 overall), here are some notable guys taken since 2010 in that range:

Tyler Toffoli
Brandon Saad
Markus Granlund
Daniel Sprong

Prospects like Cernak, Hart and Girard could pan out but odds are 2/3 of them won’t become vital parts of a team.

So there's at most a 10% chance they would've drafted someone good with that pick, while Grabner is probably 50-50 at providing a nice offensive bump as they chase down a playoff spot and positioning in a very open division.

It's a fine trade.

That's what I'm worried about. He's a solid player and the pick may not pan out but our farm isn't loaded and we don't have a 3rd this year. If he re-signs I'm ok with it.

RJ still lives in the area and practices with the U18 AAA Jackets from time to time. Local rumor is he is looking for a High School coaching gig ala Clarkman.

Honestly, at this point I am kind of with you. If they hang onto a wild card spot, they get Tampa or Washington in round one, and if they somehow climb into the metro spots, they likely get Pitt again. They need to realize where the dead weight is and retool.

Calvert, Johnson, Dubinsky, Jenner and Milano all should go. Harrington should be shot into the sun.
