Trade Alfred Morris?

OK so lets say it doesnt happen, are you really ready to cut our ground game production in half this year just to get a draft pick for next year?? Sure if we end up 1-5 in four weeks we could reconsider this. But as of right now, I dont think you even consider trading Alf, even for a 1st round pick.

I believe the first rounder is worth it b/c like jy19 said he wont be here next year. I think he is going to want more than 5 million. No way SM passes on a first rounder. Yes Alf can be replaced in the offseason. Its not like we are trading away Forte or Peterson. Alf is not a top 10 RB in the NFL.

So basically you have already tanked on the season, might as well start planning for next year.

And again I dont think Atlanta would give us a first rounder for him in any case.

I am a firm believer in system RBs. Alfred was tremendous with the Shanahans and still has some high value in a trade. Would anybody be willing to trade Alfred to Atlanta? What would you want in return?

I'm not for trading him. That was other folks. I think he stays and signs a bigger deal with another team in the offseason that the Skins won't touch.

OK - you just said it. The Falcons would be trading a 1st rounder for about half a season of a RB. Why would they do that?

Knighton, Robinson and Kirk if he turns out to be the guy yes. But seriously I dont see HUGE money going to a punter. Young is full back, so no way do I see that being huge money. So really we are talking about paying 4 guys. With what i expect to be at minimum $23 million in cap space after we ditch the boat anchor, i really dont see a reason why we couldnt keep them all.

Yep & I have confidence in the new setup since SM is an excellent personnel guy & Allen is very good with managing the cap.

I havent forgotten him, IM just not 100% sold he will be back.

Based on the numbers we have now, we SHOULD be rolling around $10-12 million into next year unless the injury bug hits hard and we end up having to fill spots.

We currently have $13 million in cap space. I figure we will burn $3 of that one way or another.

So we roll over $10 million. Add that to the $7 million projected for next year and thats $17 million. Once we dispose of he who shall not be named, that adds another $16.1 million.

So with $33 million, I think we would be good. Even IF they decide to keep he who shall not be named, I can not see them carrying him at that figure, and I also suspect that a few of the other heavy weight deals would be reworked if needed.

Bottom line is, if the idea is to trade Alf because we might not be able to afford him, well I just blew that theory out of the water. If its because we feel we would be better off with the draft pick, I consider that a concession that we have little or no shot of actually improving this year so lets start planning for next year.

2nd what does trading AM say to the team ? a productive team guy gets traded after 2 games . what about our season ? doesnt that matter ?

and i posted a thread about lame duck skins that clearly gives us a huge portion of cap space so signing AM , gallette robinson and pot roast with KC is certainly doable and those figures dont count Rg3 being gone

Yeah, no team is giving up a 1st rounder for any RB, let alone one that is widely considered a "2 down" RB. We love Alf, but let's be real. He's not considered an elite RB in the NFL.

I also agree that it doesn't make sense to trade him when the season is so young and the teams wants to establish an identity as a power running team. Can't just hand everything over to a rookie with no backup that fills the need behind him.

The only reason I'd even entertain the idea of trading Alf is if he clearly intends to walk at the end of the season and you need to get something for him. But you don't do that until the season is deemed over and we are not close to that. Plus, NFL trades are rare. Even more rare are the rental type deals you see in basketball and baseball, especially for a RB. They just don't have much value as they used to in the minds on the NFL GMs.

Alf is one guy I could see signing for below the market value to stay here. Just seems like that is his personality.
