Whooo Hooooo.
We improved to 34th in TFL's and 74th in sacks.
And then you posted a bunch of other crap that I'll choose to ignore.

Yep.

And it's not really surprising that we improved in those 2 places........UCLA is one of the worst in the country over the past 2 years at giving up sacks

We got one sack. That stat must be pretty close if we improve that much with one sack.

9 TFL which I don't track these things but I would think that to be impressive for us. I don't think I hardly ever notice any.

The organization on this board is poor. One thing I liked about the CBS board, there seemed to be one thread on a topic and it was easy to discuss things. This board has stuff all over the place. I never know where to post thoughts.

Since I'm thinking about the defense, I thought I'd post here.

Saw this stat this morning: we are giving up 5.97 yards rushing on first down (114th). That's just ridiculous. We need to just sell out to stop the run on 1st down, even against the spread. That's what's killing us. You let the opposing team get 5-6 yards on 1st down, they have the entire playbook to work with on 2nd and 3rd. If we could force a lot more 2 and 10s we'd be doing a lot better. I'd give up an occassional big passing play on 1st down if we can get that rushing total down to 2 yards. I mean they are going to get big yards if we keep allowing that kind of rushing game.

Also, tackling drills should happen this entire week. And not of that pansy, "we go for the tackle but don't take kids to the ground" crap. These kids need to learn how to put people on the ground. We can't have a QB or RB in our grasp and let up. I'm getting tired of missed sacks because our guy just expects the QB to fall over (Ankrah I'm looking at you). Tired of the tackling up high at the shoulder pads, you can't wrap up on those. You don't have to go to the ankles, but get down to the waist and drive through the guy. I remember at HS football games we had this one idiot (much older brother of one of our guys) who would scream "Hit em in the knees" when we were on defense. That went through my mind multiple times Saturday as that would have been way better than the way we were tackling.

Finally, I think Bo might change some things over the Bye week. I'd hope by an FCS school's OL manhandling his DL, he has learned that he might need to try something different on defense or at least up at the LOS. Guys just aren't getting off blocks and in the 2-gap system thats a necessity. Some columnist thought Blitzing was the key. I don't know if I want that, that's what Cosgrove did in '07 and what did that help?

Regarding organization, this forum is a reflection of Bo.

Regarding getting off blocks and getting pushed around.

we must scrap the pattycakes huggybear shuffle for sure by the DTs...randle and ankarah need less time on the field. McMullen moss and Gregory need to be rotating. Less of ankarah would be nice.

curry Maurice Collins need to be until randle plays every down he is on the field guy really has the huggybear down:nod:

Hate to say this...really wish Suttles would be here seems like he had a mean streak that we are missing. Needed to direct it at other team but hey baby steps right.

Stats don't mean much when we are still getting blown out aka UCLA. Close losses at least show that we may be improving (assuming they are against decent teams). What still frosts my balls is the cheap piss poor tackling.
