Just talking about this at work.

Top three Metal/Hard Rock albums of the 80's

My choices

Ronnie James Dio - Holy Diver

Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime

Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance

Alot of people said Back in Black, while it was agreat album i'm a Bon Scott fan and think they were much better with him, imagine how good that album would have been had he not died.

Others that come to mind in no particular order are... GNR Appetite, Ozzy Blizzard, Crue Shout at the Devil, Metallica Master of Puppets, Maiden Piece of Mind, Black Sabbath Mob Rules, Mercyful Fate Don't break the oath. There are obviously many more and some of these had multiple albums that could be considered but I just wanted to include a few.

What you got?

There are a lot of good rock/metal albums that came out in the 80s but one of them stands head and shoulders above the rest...

1. Operation: Mindcrime - Perfect 10, flawless execution of sophisticated music, Geoff Tate's pipes at the peak of their powers. Impeccable and legendary.
2. Metallica - Master of Puppets. Nearly flawless and definitive thrash.
3. Tony MacAlpine - Edge of Insanity. All instrumental rockers with complex, classical songwriting and probably not a bad note on the whole album.

I like "Rising Force" & "Odyssey" by Yngwie Malmsteen.

*on the whole I wasn't a huge fan of the genre, quite honestly....but there were a few albums that piqued my interest....including "I Am the Night" by Pantera....and "Girls,Girls,Girls" by Motley Crue.

(one of my roommates in college was a huge fan of Slayer and Venom) lol

I was still in HS then too. I'd moved on to other things by the 80s. Carry on...

The genre was changing, and it didn't have the same appeal for me as it did in the 70's....but as I said, there were a few in the 80's that I liked.

Metal was great in the 80's until shit bands like Poison, Cinderella, Great White and other glam bands took over, it was over at that point!
