Yeah so, Manny Diaz is gonna disappoint the shit out of somebody. Jake Spavital too. Neither of them suck obviously, but they aren't elite either. Elite coordinators don't produce record breaking futility regardless of the circumstance. I've personally watched both do exactly that.
I thought his name was Manny _iaz?

Diaz was a defensive guru til he took a ride on the offensive buzzsaw that is the Big12. Now, magically he is a defensive guru again stoppin them pee wee offenses...

Spavital is a fine OC, Holgorsen is a fine OC.

Thats what we have in Motown right now, two fine arse OC’s......

But not a HC in sight.

His (Marcus Arroyo's) first head coaching job should be at his alma mater, San Jose State. Just my $0.02.
Well I guess Oregon at least gets to keep him from SJSU for at least another year or 2. I cant imagine them canning Brennan before 2020 unless he somehow has them getting worse.

personally I never understood the going after alma mater thing. Like how about getting the best person we can get no matter where they went to school?
Because you might get lucky and they have the nostalgia to stay when bigger jobs open, see Pat Fitzgerald.

It’s a good tie breaker if you have two equal candidates. I’ll take the guy who has meaning and purpose with my university.

Plus I feel an alma mater is a lot less likely to leave for a perceived ‘better’ job. Like Fitzgerald at Northwestern so far.

back to the topic at hand I would throw Jim Leavitt's name in the ring. DC at Oregon taking Oregon from 116 to 46th in 1 year.

Easy appeal to fans who like to see "their guy," especially at programs that aren't top-flight.

meh. Id rather have a good coach over a guy just because he went to the school.

I don't disagree. But there are way too many fans who place too much important on them being an alum. I think it's more of a thing that happens outside of the elite programs and may be tied to the idea that if they are an alum they won't leave for another job.

Think of it as if you were a program like Iowa State or Northwestern. You hire a new coach. Best case scenario, they are successful and in four years someone steals them and you are back looking for another coach and shooting darts. Worst case scenario is they suck and you have to fire them after 3-4 years and you are back looking for another coach and shooting darts.

He's been a HC before. I think this list was assistants that haven't been one.

Leavitt should get a look. In today's environment it seems most ADs are reluctant to hire a coach considered too tough. Wasn't that the case at USF?

Spavital was pretty terrible at A&M. How much of his success do you think is due to Holgerson?

Not a great deal,
He did well here before and put up some good numbers at Cal as their OC. He is a good OC, he fell in love with Grier's arm last year and went away from the run a little too much but to his defense our OLine couldn't bust a grape as far as a running game at times last year too so..

I hate Spavital and think his play calling is shit. Whether it’s him or Holgorsen calling a run on 3rd and 7 every damn time to try and catch the D off guard is really annoying. Doubt he’d be a good HC, at least at the moment.

They should not be on the list but I would not trade Rodney Garner for anyone and would only swap Kevin Steele for a Will Muschamp quality DC.
Kevin Steele easy a top 5 and Chip hasn't earned a ranking yet.

His (Marcus Arroyo's) first head coaching job should be at his alma mater, San Jose State. Just my $0.02.

I think he had a shot a couple of years ago. If I remember right he was on the short list for their HC gig but ended up as OC for Oregon.

San Jose State is one of the worst D1 jobs available. I get love for your Alma Mater but with his recruiting abilities and offensive pedigree I'm guessing his sights are aimed higher
