Yes I know that I am breaking my own rules by listing Ernie Banks as a SS. But to many including me he is and will always be remembered as a SS even though he played 125 more games at 1B.

I can get behind that. Most of Banks' career value is tied to his SS years.

I know many will be surprised by this from me, but...

Banks.

Just looking at this SS years ('53-'61), he was an absolute beast. Aparicio provided almost "nothing" with the bat his whole career. 1970 was the only season he provided a 100+ OPS+. In Banks' 8+ years at the position, he had 7 seasons with a 120+ OPS+.

I never saw either play, and as I have stated, I do not trust defensive stats to even use on a throw-away level. Therefore, I can only go with GGs won (which is a HORRIBLE defensive measure) and reputation. Aparicio reminds me of Smith or Vizquel (elite D with passable offense). Banks looks more like a Ripkin or Jeter (elite SS bat with average D).

I am someone who thinks Ernie Banks is one of the most over-rated players of all time... But even with that, it is not even close... Banks wins...
