this one is much closer than it first appears...

Kaline was better defender, Ott was better at getting on base and hitting for power... But everything except for defense and walks was very close...

But because RF is not a premium defense position, you have to give it to Ott...

Kaline is one of my favorite players of all-time. His batting average is comparable to Ott's, especially considering Kaline played through the second MLB "pitchers era" of the 1960s, but OBP leans more to Ott. Obviously power favors Ott.

I didn't see Ott play the outfield, but baseball experts consistently rank Kaline as one of the best RF defenders of all time. There's a play in those 1968 World Series films where Lou Brock tags up at third on a fly to right, Kaline throws an absolute seed right to the glove of Tiger catcher Bill Freehan, and they cut back to Brock stopping after two steps and going back to third. Brock didn't respect many outfield arms in his career, but he clearly respected Kaline's.

I think Kaline is a Top 5 RF, but Ott is ranked right where he should be at #3. I have to put my head above my heart and vote for Ott.

OTT, but not by much....... His batting was a tad better with more power. More walks meant less hits than Al, but overall his offensive numbers were better.
