Evan taking out the fact that Edgar spent most of his career as a DH, this one is not close.

Not even a competition.

I disagree that it is not even a competition... But I know how you hate players who barely played that position to be in this contest...

I do agree that the winner is Beltre... But Martinez was the better hitter...

I think I was the lone vote for Harrah against Martinez in the first round...

I loved watching Edgar hit... one of the sweetest right-handed swings I've ever seen. But yeah, this one is Beltre all the way.

His slight edge in hitting doesn't even come close to offsetting Beltre's vastly better defense.

Two of my favorite players. But I have to go with Beltre. Widely considered one of the greatest defensive 3B of all-time (via eye test or metrics) and was a damn good hitter to boot.

But slight edge in hitting? Come on. Edgar was a career .312/.418/.515 (147 OPS+) hitter. Beltre has a career line of .285/.337/.477 (115 OPS+). I really don't see how offense is remotely close.

Beltre.

But slight edge in hitting? Lol ok. Edgar was a career .312/.418/.515 (147 OPS+) hitter. Beltre has a career line of .285/.337/.477 (115 OPS+).

I'll take Beltre's slash line in an extra 2000 plate appearances over Edgars slash line. I'm sure he was a lot of help as he sat out basically 3 complete seasons compared to Beltre. At this point both have 18 years of MLB experience. Beltre was reliable day in and day out, in the field and at the plate. Martinez bat didn't do much good if he wasn't suited up.

Bonds had an even better bat. I nominate him for best 3B ever...
