see i think Morgan should be compared with Hornsby... so again i disagree... at some point we have to look at time period and say the stats might not be telling us the full story...

also Morgan is one of the best baserunners in baseball history(sure we define baserunning as Stolen bases)
Yet stats is what we use, as flawed as they are. In my opinion, either stats are used or not used. I'm not sure I like this weird middle where we use them when we want to and disregard them when we want to alter our standards for our favorite players.

thats not what i meant... my point is simply that different eras have different reputations... if one era has significantly better BA than another era, then how can we look at the comparison of player and not realize that a players BA is due to his era...

and so on... not just BA... just used that as an example...

I know you use BA as an example but its weird that you keep using that as an example. I don't see anyone using it precisely because it is not as big of a deal as it used to be. That's why I would prefer OPS+ or just looking at OBP and SLG separately. But OPS+ is supposed to give an idea of dominance independent of era.

you do realize that an inflated BA is going to inflate OBP too... and therefore OPS...
