I know it's time to heavily consider Arod now, .295 average and 696 career HR's, for a SS. But I just dislike him so much. I'll put my biases aside. I'm nominating Alex Rodrigues for the 7th best player of all time.
Interesting how NO ONE has actually nominated him…

I'll consider him once Rocket leaves the board
My support for RC is clear. But ARod is a very sticky situation that I am seriously struggling with how to handle. He did what he did. But he was absolutely, without question, cheating while doing it.

But what he did was no different from what BB or RC did. But BB and RC positively did NOT cheat. The fuzziness of that is not lost on me, no matter how vocal I am in my defense of RC and BB.

Similarly, if Aaron, Wagner and Speaker are going to be included in this as epic, all-time accumulators, shouldn’t Palmeiro be discussed as well? His finger waving should be treated the same way Gehrig’s speech or Bonds’ assholeness is treated. Totally extrabaseball.

Palmeiro ain't even in the same (metaphorical) ballpark as Hank Aaron. This whole thing about calling Aaron an "accumulator" seems disrespectful. He accumulated great seasons. Not that WAR is everything but a player could have 6 or 7 seasons with a WAR of 6.5-7.5 and a few other slightly above average seasons and be considered for the hall of fame. Aaron did that for 17 years in a row (ok one year he "only" had a 5.0 WAR but there were several in the 8s and 9s which are considered MVP worthy. Palmeiro accumulated a lot of homeruns and hits in an era where they were not that hard to come by, which is reflected in his WAR total that is half of Aaron's. You could say he's got hall of fame numbers but not inner circle Hank Aaron numbers.

Also, I wonder if you looked really closely at his numbers if you could find a 150 game period where he put up one of those eye catching 10+ WAR stretches, just not in the same season.

I almost nominated him. In the end, I could get past the cheating but then I saw his name on the P. Diddy list......
My comment was entirely based on the fact that he stated he was nominating him, but didn’t actually nominate him.

As gross as the Diddy-list may be, it is completely extrabaseball.

I thought extra baseball was the 10th inning?

My comment was entirely based on me trying to sound like I know who P Diddy is and pay attention to current events.

The Big Train making a run. If Mantle and Hornsby tie, do we get the rare treat of the 4 player runoff?

While the gap between Johnson/Gehrig and Mantle/Wagner is pretty substantial, I will go with all 4. A player needs to win with 50+1, so including an extra player doesn’t hurt anything.
