I am most likely going with Cobb and Hornsby. But I am not certain who gets my 3rd nom.

Sell me.

To busy loading it up with worthless Yankees to avoid getting called a homer…
Yeah, about that. Are we really leaving the Hit King off the list in favor of freaking Paul O'Neill? Is he disqualified from being called a great baseball player in an informal poll?

It should probably be Gehrig based on War7.

I do think if War is your major factor on top of positional player then Stan Musial comes in. But based on your general thoughts I think it's Gehrig

Time to start nominating a pitcher? I'm still debating when to do that (besides Ohtani who I keep voting as my 3rd pick)

Yep. I get the love for Cobb, .366 for his career is amazing, but Gehrig wasn't far off at .340 and he add nearly 500 HR's worth of pop. War 7 favors Gehrig, and of course there are all the Championships. Cobb being a CF may give him more defensive value than a 1B, but not enough for me

I should probably move Cobb down but I'm staying consistent for no good reason LOL

He did have a lot more career WAR than Gehrig, Musial did too. Among position players Cobb was 4th all time in WAR behind 3 others we've already voted in. Aaron was 5th.

Mickey Mantle
110.2 career WAR, 64.7 7 year WAR, 3 MVPs, led MLB in OPS+ for 8 years (including 5 years in a row), another 3 years was 2nd in OPS+, career OPS+ of 172 is 6th best among all MLBers with at least 7500 PAs (3 of those 5 above him have already been ranked in this poll).

Scratch this. I've looked further and will change my votes. Mantle's career WAR is good for 22nd. While his OPS+ is 6th best, his WAR7 lands him 16th. He's good but not 6th place good.

I do agree that pitchers need to be in the discussion now. Walter Johnson has a 166.9 WAR, 147 ERA+ and 91.1 WAR7. He was really good.
Cy Young has a 163.6 WAR, 138 ERA+ and 78 WAR7. I'd vote for these two along with Ty Cobb (151.5 WAR, 168 OPS+ and 69 WAR7).

I think it is getting close to the point of looking at pitchers. I can be convinced otherwise, but I think the top pitcher is Clemens. His durability numbers don’t compare to the old-timers, but he pitched for 24 years in an era where 250 IP was elite. In the era he pitched, with Maddux, Randy and Pedro, he stood above them all.

He still won’t get my VOTE over Cobb, but I think he deserves nominations at this point.
