I gotta say Grove is underrated and will switch my pitcher nomination to him, definitely better than Spahn, and Pedro doesn't need my help lol

OK just for kicks I looked at Kershaw's numbers...that dude should really be in the mix right now. Lifetime 2.50 ERA, 212-94 record, lifetime ERA+ of 156, WHIP 1.01 (!), 3 Cy Youngs, 1 MVP...

His numbers are significantly better than Koufax for example. And they are equal to Pedro, even slightly better in a couple areas. As of now they have played basically the same length of time...biggest knock on Kershaw of course is postseason but his regular season stats are every bit as good as people being voted on now and he gets zero support.

Just something I noticed.

you are not wrong... Kershaw gets forgotten because he is a current player, who basically disappeared... Looking at his stats now... i am surprised he doesnt get credit for the 2024 WS...

Pujols, Trout and Kershaw will all get much better respect in these all time great lists in around 10 years, when people dont care about how they basically disappeared...

then again, Gaylord perry still gets some hate for it... so who knows...

I think Kershaw is Koufax, if Koufax had better medicine available.

His numbers are significantly better than Koufax's though, a longer career for Koufax wouldn't have closed that gap. I don't mean counting stats either, ERA and ERA+ and WHIP and W/L %. And Koufax had the higher pitching mound.

i think it was LHG who told me i should start stumping for Lefty Grove... but i think i will once pujols goes... even over Pedro...

9 seasons leading the league in ERA, and 8 times leading division in WAR(for pitchers)... that is the best in baseball history for both stats..... that stat by itself is good enough for me to consider him for a top 5 all time pitcher...

Kershaw is pretty great too... he led 5 times... which is tied for third best all time...

spahn is a clear all time great too... but he is not a top 10 guy IMO... in fact, i think i would probably put Mariano rivera over him... MAYBE... dont quote me on that one yet...

He may be a top 10 pitcher all time though, like 9 or 10:

(not in order necessarily)

W Johnson
R Johnson
Clemens
Pedro
Maddux
Grove
Seaver
Mathewson
Maybe Cy Young?

Who else am I missing?

Those last slots could easily be Spahn or Kershaw or even Rivera. And Kershaw has a case over Pedro, Spahn too. Gibson?

over spahn?? the 9 you listed, then gibson, Alexander, koufax, halladay, verlander, kershaw... none are in order... and i am sure i can name others...

i put 3 modern day pitchers in, but damn they compare to the best of the best too...

Spahn is for sure more worthy than Koufax, Halladay, but not Kershaw or Gibson.

maybe i am beginning to under appreciate Spahn... but Koufax and Halladay are still better IMO...

Halladay, you may have to relook at his stats... same with verlander... they are better than Spahn IMO...

Kershaw has bad postseason numbers. No getting around that. But he has been soooo mismanaged in his post season appearances, it is hard to blame it on him.

i do think Max at his MAX is better than verlander at his "max"
I am not going to look THAT closely right now, but looking at accolades and bolds, Max would need a strong argument to overcome the delta, imho.

My assumption was always that Max was the superior of the two, though.

verlander reminds me of adrian Beltre... not in any actual real way... just by how i always thought they were super over-rated... and then they just kept on playing until they really became not just clear HOFers... but top 10 at their positions... or for Verlander, at least really close...
