i honestly dont think that was trolling... ive said this a bunch of times through this.... as fair as our system is... there is a big whole in the second runoff... we have seen a bunch of times throughout this already that people did not like the 2 options in the finals...

Griffey is always going to get votes now to get into at least the first runoff... there might be a problem again going into this next one, when we potentially have 3 pitchers going... debating between the three is going to be hard, and people might want to go with the easier choice, the offensive player they like and saw...

I wouldnt be surprised if Griffey wins this next round... not because he should win, its just the easy choice...
There is no baseball reason for Griffey to win over Foxx, Speaker or Robinson. Except that Griffey was just a REALLY swell guy.

other than the crowd has seen Griffey... i do of course agree... but griffey had some sort of magic, because looking at his numbers, and remembering him play feels like 2 totally different players...

I understand he had injury concerns after he left seattle... but still... also, his one MVP should probably be 3... just like Joe D...

The last vote was close. Griffey had no business getting that much support. So unless a lot of the voters are just making this a popularity contest (something I am not interested in) it had to be due to trolling. The only people who defended their votes said it was basically a popularity thing (Clemens was an asshole and Griffey was a good guy). While they are allowed to do that, that is a kind of troll vote.

If more of the Griffey vote voiced up to at least shed light on WHY they voted that way, I would be more OK with it. But EVERYONE who participates voted Clemens while EVERY Griffey voter was a ghost (except DHoey).
A clean 630 homers

Yeah, but it’s not SO far out of bounds. I mentioned previously that I would take Griffey over Rickey Henderson, for example. I think Rickey passing away had something to do with his unexpectedly high ranking.

But all of these top 10 or top 100 lists have holes in them and all sorts of arguments along the way. I’ll remind you of this list I posted from 2 MLB Network guys early in the process:

Neither has Clemens. One has Griffey. Both have Dimaggio(who hasn’t gotten meaningful support yet at #16 for us). One has Joe Morgan instead of Ty Cobb or Ted Williams! Those placements seem a lot more egregious than Clemens over Griffey. It’s a very subjective process. No need to take any of it personally.

P.S. I hope you go to 20, as well.

And I said when this pic was first posted in this discussion that those lists are absolutely BS. They are there to create clicks. Russo, in particular, is a sports-shock jock. He has no capability of speaking outside of a shout. I consider most of his takes as falling under the “troll” category.

I get it, but your reaction to the Griffey-almost-win was a little much. So he might have gotten ranked a few slots too high. Big deal. It’s not like it would have been Devon White taking that slot. Griffey is an all-timer.

I would not have half the problem with Griffey if it wasn’t only from ghost voters who wouldn’t/couldn’t argue their case.

I am running this because the discussion is really fun. I want a debate. I want to to teach you something. I want you to teach me something.

The Griffey votes were just sitting there with absolutely zero explanation. Everyone who actually contributed voted Clemens. There was not a single argument put forward in favor of Griffey that made any sense. DHoey explained why he voted the way he did. I respect the hell out of him for doing that. But no one else provided a single word to hint why they voted Griffey. Therefore, I was unable to learn more about Griffey, which made the entire point of this project pointless to me.
