The only person voting for Griffey who has stated why he is doing it is DHoey. While I think his reasoning is asinine, at least he has a reason and is standing up for it. Everyone else is just doing a drive-by vote.

Can’t ANYONE defend their Griffey vote?

there is none besides YUK.... CLEMENS....

To be fair, I'm fine with not losing any further brain cells while reading their "reasoning." Clemens falling to #15 or lower is asinine.

OR just vote for clemens so this list does not get bastardized!!! you can begrudgingly vote for clemens

Remember all... a vote for clemens will also get clemens off the voting table so we can finally get past him...

a vote for griffey might as well be a vote for Matt Nokes...
My two favorite players as a kid…

I voted for Griffey because he is the more deserving out of these 2. I think there was a better option, actually 2 in the previous vote off. I have slightly different standards than ya'll.

If you want me to defend it, I think there is one who got way more attention and accolades than he should have, did roids, and is a complete asshole. The other was slighted for playing in the lower Alaska, a moderate asshole, and didn't do roids

One hit back to back home runs with his dad. His freaking DAD!!

The other threw a broken bat at a opposing player in a fit of roid rage.

Enough said.

You have stood up for your reasoning. My complaints about not understanding the vote are not directed at you. We disagree mightily, but you are standing behind your opinion. I fully respect that.

Judging someone’s baseball skills on their personal skill is so alien to me. You can like or dislike a player and have it effect your fandom of him or his team or baseball in general all you want. That is a function of the lizard brain, and facts or logic have very little to do with that. I get that. We all are fans and like/dislike certain things about all sports.

But when we are discussing how good a player was, and the argument given that he was great is that he was a nice, swell guy who made his dad cry in pride over a HR he hit, we have exited all semblance of logic. If an argument is made that a player sucked because he was an asshole, objective acknowledgement of reality is lost.

If someone is excluded from consideration because he crossed a BASEBALL line, that is acceptable. As long as you are consistent in applying that metric. And different people can place that line at different locations. As long as they are consistent with how they treat players who cross that line.

Let me go back and review the criteria that we are suppose to be using….to create our own opinion.

I get it but I think you're not giving the rest of the world enough credit. I'm sure some players got overlooked playing on the Mariners but Ken Griffey Jr. was extremely well-known everywhere. I know baseball is a local kind of thing but I lived on the east coast for his whole career and he was still one of the most well known players of that time period. He was on the Simpsons, in video games and his name already had recognition because Ken Griffey Sr. played on the Big Red Machine and was still in the league when Jr. started.

So I think the hesitancy with Griffey Jr is "did he do it for long enough?" or "were there enough great seasons?"

The choices such so I begrudgingly went Clemens.

Griffey was done being griffey at 30ish. At least Clemens respected the game enough to inject his ass to be great longer.

It has always been a Yeah But, with the Mariners. And rightfully so for the most part. He played on some shitty teams. He didn’t have much around him. And yes he was mostly done in his 30’s yet still managed over 600HR’s.

100%

also, debate. You tell me where I am wrong and how you come to your rankings. I will tell you where you are wrong and how I came to my rankings. I learn from you. You (hopefully) learn from me.

Actually now that I look a little deeper, how the fuck did Juan Gonzalez win 2 MVPs? Either one of those could have gone to Griffey or Arod. Maybe Seattle did get overlooked some.

I think Griffey is a bit overrated just because of the career HR totals and how people compare him to "pre-roids Bonds" (who blows Griffey out of the water those years). I do think Griffey got jobbed in the 1993 and 1996 AL MVP races. There's a pretty legitimate argument to be made for Clemens as the GOAT pitcher (I'd say between him, Young and Walter Johnson)
