Oh, they absolutely were. Those lists were absolute garbage.
After Musial, Hornsby, Speaker, and Wagner leave the board I could myself voting for him.

Neither list had Bonds at all! These are supposed to be 2 baseball gurus, too. Both have Schmidt. Russo doesn’t have Ted Williams. Joe Morgan is on Kenny’s list and hasn’t even been discussed once on here. I think we are doing a much better job. Here’s the list if you missed it on the other thread:Those lists were absolute garbage.
I have included DiMaggio off and on since the start. He received an “other” vote in this poll, so he will definitely be included in the top 11 list. Rose and Trout I will consider, but I will see how it turns out when I am making the list. I included all the fresh HOFers this round, and that pretty much ate up all the “rotating” spots. Clearing them out will give me a lot of room.
But do you realize how many players played long and consistent? Enough that were better than Rose to knock him out of the Top 100, in my list. I'm not knocking him either on the gambling. I just think he is overrated.I think that’s fair. He’s probably closer to Ripken than he is to Mantle, but longevity and consistency matter(and I don’t imagine Ripken will get much love on here). But I can’t ignore the 4000 hits. It’s just kind of mind boggling. I would start considering him soon and I wonder if others agree?
I can accept this. Rose is not my hill to die on. I just scoff at the notion that he’s out of the top 100 and that the 4000 hits don’t score him more points. But do you realize how many players played long and consistent? I'd probably rank Ichiro lower than others as well. The hits put him as high as he is but his WAR and OPS+ aren't that special (compared to about 100 other big leaguers).I can accept this. OPS isn’t a ”power stat”. It is an “effectiveness stat”. A double is rated higher than a single. A triple is rated higher than a double. But ops+ is a power stat. Kind of inaccurate to ding a non power hitter because he doesn’t hit for power.
Overall I agree with you. But my problem with him is the lack of walks. If your job is getting on base and stealing bases. You need to be more than a good batting average.
He’s a clear HOFer. But he is also of the lowest quality of the hof deserving.

You realize OBP is double counted in OPS? Power is an effectiveness measurement of a baseball player. Everything else the same, a player WITH power is better that a player without power. This is why many claim Ichiro is over-rated and the argument that he CHOSE not to have power is eye-rolled by many. A HR is not just a little bit better than a single. It is a LOT better than a single. Are you really going to say slugging percentage is not a power stat?? Whatever. The point is still a player whose purpose is to get on base and stealing bases, should be better at taking walks.
Liar.Shoeless Joe is 13th alltime in OPS+. And hit less homers in his career than Judge hit last year.
