Schmidt before or after pitcher 2? Good argument for before imo
It's close for me. It's tough to take a guy plays every 5th day but Clemens makes a good case

I now see he couldn’t be a Yankee. He’s off my list now.
That was actually a wig. He was in a slump one time and they were up in Montreal and he made some comments about the fans not supporting him. The talk radio guys in Philly found out about it and got a bunch of fans fired up. When the Phillies came back home there were fans ready to boo Schmidt as soon as he went out on the field. So he wore that wig and sunglasses when he went out onto the field and people started laughing and cheered him and then everything was cool again.

But in the 70's Schmitty did have a glorious afro

This is a problematic poll result so far. There is going to be a second runoff. With 15-12 so far.

But Clemens, young and Hornsby are too close. So

Maybe we need to split this into 2 runoffs.

Matchup 1. Hornsby vs musial
Matchup 2 young vs Clemens.

Then winner of both matchups face eachother.

And we can also use the results in future runoffs

For example if Musial beats hornby in round 1

And young beats Clemens

If young beats Musial then we don’t have to put Hornsby in the 11th player vs Musial.

I'm confused already.

Im not really sure I see Musial losing at this point. Only 9 people are voting pitcher. Stan has 12 votes. A pitcher would have to win 5 of the remaining 6 votes without losing support.

Personally, I'm way more likely to flip to Hornsby than the pitchers.

There’s going to be another runoff as long as Musial doesn’t get 1 more than half.

Right now he has 13 votes out of 28. So he is 2 votes off from there being no runoff.

Maybe there won’t be another one.

But if there is another Hornsby, Clemens and young are so tight. That we won’t lose one in the runoff.

That’s a very silly comment. It’s ok not to like a player. And Clemens is not likable. And steroid use makes him even harder not to like.

Dinging him for steroids is fair.

But I don’t see how you can ding him for his play.

WAR is a counting stat. If he had a 7.7 WAR in a short season, that actually means he was MORE dominant in that season.

No, his point was that if it was a full season that 7.7 would have been closer to a 10. Which looks much better.

And war7 would have looked much better.

I was messing around with the both comment. Randy and Maddux had better peaks then Clemens, and I would easily choose Clemens third of those 3 if I was planning a rotation for the world series.

That’s not how 50+1 runoffs work.

What do you mean. Am I not understanding something??

If there is 20 votes in the book if one nominee doesn’t have 11 or more then we do another runoff

Is that wrong??

Yeah. I reread his post and saw that. Which is why I defeated the post. You replied before I had a chance to recall it.

A 50+1 requires a runoff to get the 50+1. You would sort the results by percentage and advance all options until you exceed 50%.

As it sits now, if every vote below Clemens switched to Clemens, he still would not crack the 50% barrier. But if Young or Hornsby were able to pick up the Clemens and Wagner votes (and Musial kept his votes), then the 50% barrier would only advance Musial and Hornsby/Young. At that point, Hornsby/Young COULD be joined to overtake Musial. But getting the right to potentially pick up those votes need to go through a process.

i stumped for schmidt a couple rounds ago... not hard... was hoping he would get traction... but didnt...

hard to continue stumping when player doesnt even make it to the first round of runoff...

But i have him easily top 15... and that would be above where i have musial... so suck it @Clayton....
I’m starting to think of Schmidt around this level. Bench, too. Greatest 3B and greatest catcher of all-time. I’ve seen a bunch of top 10 lists that contain both of them.
