I have a long list of favorites, there's a lot of greats in my book that came just shy of the top 10. The first 5 out in order are:

Emmylou Harris
Kitty Wells
Lynn Anderson
Crystal Gale
Connie Smith

We had somewhat similar male lists, but we are on different wavelengths with the women singers.

Martina ain't bad, but I can't stand Patsy Cline, Reba or Barbara Mandrell(other than Midnight Oil)

Gets sketchy after that.

If you are in the camp that Linda Ronstadt is a country singer then put her at #1 and slide everyone else down a notch.

I'd take Patsy Cline any day over your #1. Can't stand her at all.

I get wood every time I hear Tanya Tucker sing.

Outlaw Country is my favorite form of country, and Tanya Tucker was the female that came the closest to outlaw country.

I don't like Patsy Cline's voice. I don't like her songs. Really, there wasn't much country about her. Willie Nelson writing Crazy and a plane crash are the only reasons Patsy Cline is considered an all time great IMO.

During Cline's time you had the emergence of Johnny Cash, George Jones, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn and Buck Owens as stars. Waylon and Willie were out there, but their glory years would come later. Marty Robbins, Lefty Frizzel, Don Gibson, Kitty Wells, Hank Thompson and Ernest Tubb were established stars. They were all several levels above Patsy Cline.
