Statistically, your best overall run producer should bat second. That's usually your best hitter. I've wanted Cutch in the 2-slot for a couple years now.

Your second and third best hitters can be interchanged between 1 and 4, 1 going to the OBP guy (Marte is not a 1) and 4 going to the guy with the better slugging.

Three and five are even, three being your slugging guy and five being another OBP guy. Then six, seven, eight and nine in descending order, with eight and nine about equal.

Hurdle's lineups are terrible. McCutchen is batting third, where your fourth best hitter should be slotted to optimize the lineup. That alone handicaps the offense.

Hurdle is the guy from Moneyball that cares more about what a guy's girlfriend looks like than stats. He's so oldschool it's painful. Small ball, never breaking the unwritten baseball rules like using your closer for 4/5 outs, etc. He chooses bizarre times to bunt that won't surprise teams, they just equal automatic outs. But, he's a great guy...so clearly he deserves his job.

Snider squaring to bunt is the right play. Had he gotten it down, he would have been on first base for sure.

It's game three and I full on hate Clint Hurdle. These are freaking MLB players, let them hit the ball. Putting Travis Snider out there and telling him to put it down the third base line is ridiculous.

First time, sure...but he's not on this team for that. Wasted strikes, overthought the AB. He was trying so hard to beat the shift that he weakly tapped it to the pitcher.

I do enjoy Carlos Marmol. Lead off single for Marte, Martin walked, Cutch single scored a run. 2 on, no out, 3-1. Would've been a tie...blech.
