It's hard to imagine that they would pass on Richardson at No. 5? Pretty easy for me to imagine it.
When you throw a fastball on almost every throw and complete only 53% of your passes - that's a huge red flag for me... You can't teach touch and that's something you need at the next level but you can get away w/ it in college... At this point, I don't see Richardson any different that Kaepernick...

I could be maybe being convinced that draft Richardson with our 1st 2nd round pick would be fine. Pretty tough sell though at #20 and out of the question at #20.

Richardson was considered a late round pick until he had a great combine. But being an athletic freak doesn't make you a great football player much less a great QB.

Except he has a lot less experience in college than Kapernick did. He's high-risk, high-reward type who plays the most important position in football. His first season starting left a lot to be desired, but that isn't unusual and QBs normally make a lot of strides playing a year or two longer. Hurts come to mind in that regard.

I would love to see that. Trade for Simmons. Grab one of Murphy or Van Ness at 11.

Yah, Simmons/Jones would be monstrous on passing downs, and put Van Ness in the game on 1st/2nd. I don't think Ness is a huge pass rushing threat, but he's a solid force on the field and has the athleticism/length that Pete/John love. I actually think he would really help shore up our run D. Bit more of an athletic Zach Allen.

He barely completed half his passes last year... and wasn't even that big of a threat running. At least Lamar improved every year and Cam of course put up an INSANE one year wonder season.

Some QBs make great strides. Some fall behind.

Because he's so raw he is at least 1 or 2 or maybe 3 years away. Using a No. 5 pick on a player that MIGHT be good in 2-3 years is a lot of risk.

If we had Simmons and Nwosu/Taylor/Mafe/Robinson, we would need the other guys on the line to simply be disciplined and fill lanes.

We need Cody Barton back! Trade our #20!

Okay, okay... I'll stop....

That's the gamble and I feel some NFL team is going to take the gamble. That is what the Bills did with Josh Allen and doubt Bills fans are complaining about it.

With Geno, resigned Seahawks have the luxury of developing a QB with his kind of potential.

Both Jackson/Newton were FAR bigger proven ground threats though.

These QBs' pro days are drawing attention from teams that some feel need an upgrade at QB, Falcons, Raiders, and Titans. So could be one of these teams trade with the Cards ( leaving Anderson for Seahawks) or maybe they wait and trade up with the Seahawks if they can't swing the deal with the Cards. Got to love the suspense this draft has.
I can't remember ever being this excited about a draft.

If our defense wasn't so bad in the last few years maybe I would agree. Maybe if we didn't have 71 year old coach I would agree.

Stroud and Young I could live with. I could even come to accept Levis.

Richardson is a very high risk player. We are talking less than 20% chance he becomes starter quality.

Yah it's a fun one. 2010 was close (if not better) because you basically had rounds 1-2 loitered with normal 1st round draft picks because the cap/money changes, but yah - and we had even earlier picks.

But we didn't have the 2nd round ammo we do in this draft... yah, it's a fun one for sure. It helps that this year we're coming off a great draft last year so it ups the anticipation of whether we can duplicate things this year.

Like I said high risk high reward. The 20% figure is something made up because no one knows.

and we've made some surprisingly good moves in FA to give us some flexibility in the draft. I just can't stop thinking about the draft and how this new talent is going to give us a fairly deep roster to make a good run. If Jamal Adams returns to form, then holy smokes our defense is going to potentially be a beast. The only downside is that it takes time for new faces to meld together. How many new starters do we already have on D?

Agreed. I loved our free agent acquisitions. Jones and Bush were okay but keeping it from an A+ free agency. Jones was not a bargain by any means and Bush is a shot in the dark, but Brown, Love, Wagner, Reed.. oh hell yah. And Reed was OKAY (I mean just that, OKAY) in Green Bays 3-4, but the signing itself is a steal.

New starters on D I would imagine are Wagner (heh), Jones, Reed, Love (nickel at least but Adams may not start the season), Bush (least till Brooks gets back)... 5/11 pretty solid.

Let's do a little analysis here:

Jones = Arguably equal to Harris but younger, bigger pass rushing threat, more versatile, room for improvement.
Bush = Barton. Whatever. They both are bleh. Bush can cover better (DING DING DING) and Barton was.. I guess okay at times, but it's equal.
Brown >>> Blythe. Not even close, and he can fill in for Haynes/Lewis if injured (since Lewis always is).
Wagner > Brooks. Even at 33 Wagner's football IQ is just far superior. He doesn't have the athleticism he once does but he's still great.
Love is just a contingency factor. He allows Bryant to play his natural position, Adams if healthy (lol) to play Money LBer, and can play all over the secondary.
Reed >= Ford. Just a better scheme fit. It wont be a massive improvement.
Smith >>> every other contract QB recently. That contract was highway robbery.
Bellore - one of the better special teamers in the league and a good roster headcount, fine with this.

So it graded out anywhere from Cs to A+s. I'll take that all day, especially when we have the draft ammo we do.

I still wonder if Adams will be a June 1st cut. Seattle HAS to free up money for the draft. Someone is getting cut/traded. Whether it's Fant/Adams/etc. who knows. Or Lockett/Diggs gets restructured etc.

I REALLY hope we keep Neal and let Adams walk if it comes to that, but don't imagine they'll do that given the investment.

Wasn't Love the team captain wearing the green sticker helmet last year? Seems like having a guy with that experience alone could be valuable. I think he led the Giants in tackles last year and it wasn't close. I would imagine he would be a great addition to the defense. Here is the ESPN depth chart for Seattle as it stands right now:
1680297300196.png
I'd imagine Love will be the mainly starting SS and Adams will be a roving type guy. I'd imagine our four primary "LB'ers" are Wagner, Brooks, Nwosu, and Adams. So we need a NT and some rotational strength for our DE's in the first two rounds. There is a good amount of depth for edge guys in this draft and some NT talent that will be available after Carter is off the board. Getting some late round depth for corners would be awesome as well. Then we need a WR/RB, and help on our interior line.

I really hope we trade down with that #5 pick. If we could trade down twice and ultimately turn that pick into 4 or 5 2nd rounders, I would be ecstatic. There is a lot of talent to be had in the 2nd round this year when looking at the trenches.
