I saw a list of the free agents for this off-season and wow, it is one hell of an incredible class. If a team is looking to improve quickly they will have a lot of luck in the free agent market this year. It is a good year for teams to have a lot of cap space to spend. Unfortunately, as a Seahawks fan our biggest concern is retaining the guys we've got, not spending on new ones.

Same scenario for Pats with Revis being the biggest question mark.

Every time at this point in the season if you looked at the top-10 guys that "could" hit the FA market there are at least half of them that get resigned or tagged by their current team. Very few of that top-10 list is going to hit the open market. I know the Broncos are looking at Tagging D. Thomas with then trying to sign him long-term. Most likely they let Julius Thomas walk though so there is 1 top FA that could hit the market.

There will be a few big name FA's to hit the market but usually those players are going to teams that are bottom of the barrel in the NFL such as Oakland having a ton of Cap Space I could see them taking a run at Suh because they are one of the few teams that could afford a contract like his.

NFL free agency kicks off one month from today. During the process, teams will have to cram as much talent into their rosters as possible while still dealing with the short- and long-term impact the contracts will have on their salary caps.

Of course, spending money doesn't always result in improvements on the field. In fact, per ESPN Stats & Information, six of the 12 teams that have ranked in the top three in free-agent spending since 2011 did not improve their win total. That includes all three of last year’s top spending teams.

That's not to say that spending big doesn't always pay off, but the key is to spend wisely on the right impact players.

To wit, none of the major free-agent acquisitions added by teams that won the last four Super Bowls underperformed. All of those players met -- and in most cases exceeded -- the cap value of their contracts.

This is something to keep in mind when your team is considering which players they want to target and which players they think they can actually afford.

Then there are teams like the Packers, which rarely pony up for big-time free agents. Instead, they focus on developing talent through the draft, which has helped keep their salary cap manageable:

While the current roster is a bit of a mess the new GM and coach of the Jets may be in pretty good shape. They have the 4th most cap space in the league and unlike the 3 teams with more (Jags, Raiders, Browns), they shouldn't be handcuffed financially. They may get even more if they release Percy Harvin. They can pretty much mold the team and set the pieces for the team they want for the next 2-3 years.
