Stars:

1. Read. First two goal game of his career. Always nice. Made some good defensive plays too.

2. Giroux. Welcome back to the first half of the season. Three assists is good, and he was dancing with the puck a bit, too.

3. Bryzgalov*. His stats were not good, but he stopped everything he had a chance at.
The defense really left him hanging on the first two goals. Mezaros in particular on the first, which is why Bryz is here and not him.

*Caveat: I did not see the last Flyer or Islander goal, so maybe that last goal was a real stinker.

Goats:

1. Early play. YET AGAIN we have to call time out with under 5 minutes gone in the first. Lavi should basically just pencil in yelling at the players for not trying immediately prior to every game. That or start calling time before the opening face off.

2. Briere, not because he was bad... he just wasn't really there.

3. The refs, not because the ones tonight were bad, but I need a third goat and the refs have been terrible all year so the spillover goes to them.

it actually was probably there best goal of the night. if you can picture how hartnell score 50% of his goals it was the same thing, one timer from a pass down low. blast top left corner.

also, mesz, that is the kind of game i want to see from him all the time. the key i think is the safety of having grossman back there so he has some freedom to move offensively. he plays much better when he is productive on both ends of the ice.

still would like to see the goal amounts against go down. the defense i believe has been doing their job as you can see the shots against have gone way down. but the goals havent been bad goals by bryz anymore, rather glaring breakdowns that allow 1 on 1 shots from close. offense needs to do a better job coming back, or lavy needs to figure this out with his system.

Gotta have Kubina and the defense in here. Glad Kubina is okay. I was holding my breath when his eye started bleeding. Holy shit this team is cursed with injuries.

Yep 4th line was money and that's why Couturier has to stay there. When JVR comes back you move Talbot back there and its lock down time. Although Wellwood was solid tonight....

I think we're starting to see Kubina and Grossmans value now...it was exactly what this team needed. Gusty was pretty good and Lilja steady which was good to see. Need those guys down the stretch.

Bryz is starting to find his game just heating up in time for the playoffs....love it!

Jake also had a strong game calm with the puck and didn't force shit...that's the way he needs to play in the playoffs.

is it obvious now that lavi needed to stop being an impatient dick and let this guy play all the time like he was used to? guy plays 70-75 games a year and lavi had him playing at a 50 game pace until recently.

Or it may be because Bryzy read the letter from a Flyers fan. Whoever wrote that letter nailed it on the money in regard to Bryzy. I can't remember who posted it on the general board?

more of the same bullshit i've read before. i don't care if people disagree with me, but some philly fans need to get a life seriously. i am the biggest flyer fan i know, i watch every game i know every player, i follow everything i can about them. this guy is talking about sacrifices made to watch the team. dude if you are making sacrifices to buy sports tickets then you got your priorities wrong. i buy tickets cause for me it is disposable income. don't lecture about ticket prices and beer prices, bla bla bla, in the end you choose to make those purchases. if you are "sacrificing" to attend flyers games, you are an idiot.

as far as bryz, yeah he sucked, he knows that and so did everyone. he takes the blame for an entire team playing uninspired hockey and that wasnt enough apparently for this guy. to take 4 hours writing the same old story about how much money fans spend, and how apparently spending loads of money means you dont have to use your brain to watch hockey and evaluate.

6. Defense - stout. Love kubina and grossmann, again.

1. Briere - Played fairly well as a stanchion, for the wings.
2. Face offs - seriously?
3. Refs - don't really care if you call a penalty but how do you not blow the whistle. He was nearly decapitated. They should be fined severely.
