Don't know how much he had to do with the defense.
He hired a great defensive coordinator in Charlie McBride for sure.

He hired a lot of great assistants actually.

Well IMO. You don't get to be a great offensive gure like Tom without studying and learning defense. Now fortunate for him he had a great mentore in Bob. But still Tom would if given the opportunity elec to kick the ball instead of receive in the opening kick off. To see what the offense would give him. And to have one more play to study during the half and game. Also his offense worked b.c he knew defense weakness. That's why running the option worked so well. As well as recruiting stellar athletes. Even going for 2 in the natty champ game and missing that play should have worked the receiver dropped the ball. But percentage wise that was a high percentage play against Miamis D. I rewatch his games and its almost like he's a great chess player or something comparable seeing the game the way he did.

Agreed.

T.O. was good at identifying weeknesses and set teams up to exploit them.

The tight end and fullback were the most prominent set ups.

There at the end of his tenure (96/97) he threw in the QB draw.

I'm sorry FB?? Are you referring to a Full back? I kinda remember that position. Didn't mackivica and Schlesinger (so) bull doze and put bitches on on their ass as a lead blocker. Oh and occasionally carry people for 5 6 10 15 20 yards on there way to a TD. Right up the gut

Yeah fullback.

T.O. used the option around the ends to ultimately open up the middle of the field for his tight ends and fullbacks.

Only later in Frazier's career did he start using it as a means to also run the QB draw.
