hard to believe he was there 12 years! Man where does the time go...
The Giants are a patient organization. Not many guys are going to get that many seasons with one team in the future

True, ownership loved the man and probably wanted so bad for a successful season not only for their pockets, but so this day wouldn't have to come

McCarthy has been head coach at Green Bay since 2006 and Belichick has been at New England even longer.

He's been here, what, 2 years now? Offense looks much better than it did from the start, I think making McAdoo the HC would be better than bringing in Payton and possible changing the offensive system and starting over.
McAdoo would be the best hire for the Giants.

The owner loved him. The GM at the time of the hire wanted no part of him.

Payton is a great coach, but they just got used to this offensive style of play. Not sure it would be the correct call to make.
Payton is rumored to be interested in the Cowboys head coaching job.

Im sure it will be announced as a resignation, but more of a mutual parting

The organization was always gonna let him go out on his own terms, but they let him know it was time

All I keep hearing is that he went out on his own terms and rightfully so

At least the Patriots won't have to worry about him in the play-offs anymore! WOOHOO!

Best of luck in retirement!

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as head coach of the New York Football Giants," Coughlin said in a statement. "This is a not a sad occasion for me. I have spent 15 years with this organization as an assistant and head coach and was fortunate to be part of three Super Bowl winning teams. A Lombardi Trophy every five years is an achievement in which we all take great pride."

Coughlin finishes his Giants career with a 102-90 record. Remarkably, 10 of his 12 seasons ended without a playoff win and six of the last seven concluded without a trip to the playoffs. But when people look back on Coughlin’s time with the Giants, they’ll mostly remember 2007 and 2011, because both seasons ended with a Super Bowl title.

Really good run for TC there in NY. Rallied several times when folks were ready to put a death note on his tenure. Hopefully he takes the chance to spend time with his family and let this be the final chapter on the NFL grind. Dude is pushing 70, time to relax and enjoy the remaining years.

Coughlin was easily one of the best head coaches in the league.

I trashed the Jaguars harshly for getting rid of Coughlin in '02. One of the all-time blunders in NFL history. He & Pete Carroll were 2 of the guys I wanted to take over when the Niners finally got rid of useless Steve Mariucci.

The man is 69 years old - he'll catch pneumonia and croak the next time he's gets a Gatorade shower ala George Allen (Died at age 72).

Jerry Reese should have gone, not Coughlin. Reese has bombed multiple drafts and invested too much in injury prone players. Coughlin hasn't had much to work with of late, either because of injuries or lack of talent. Heard on the radio he still has a lot of connections in Jacksonville, would be a wise pickup for them, even if it's a front office gig.
