Where the heck did those rumors come from? I mean, I know there's talk about moving Bishop in general...
Been rumours for a good week or so.

Heard one about Rask to Dallas too. That one seems more absurd but you never know. I'm still shocked Dallas didn't just buy both Niemi and Lehtonen out.

Still a few teams circling around Kris Russell. Also, multiple teams believed to be interested in Kris Versteeg as well.

Which Kris will sign first? Like sands through a hourglass, so are the days of our lives.

It's hard to believe they're going to go into this season with both of them and no upgrade.

If they'd bought out Lehtonen: 16-17 hit of 1.733M, 17-18 hit of 2.733M, 18-19 hit of 1.833M, 19-20 hit of 1.833M
If they'd bought out Niemi: hit of $1.5M for next four years.
Combined: 2.333M, 3.333M, 2.433M, 2.433M

Both contracts are up after 17-18 year, so taking on that extra money would be painful...but as it stands they haven't got a goalie that gives them much of a shot in the playoffs. I know Niemi has won before, but man that seems long ago now. I don't think that Dallas has a closing window or anything...but you can't waste prime years with a sieve in goal (god...where have I heard this before?).

EDIT: And looking at Dallas' future with contracts (Benn next year, especially) I get wanting to save money, but that also means you may lose him regardless and should probably look at shoring up your net.

I think they have a pretty long window but it will take some heavy re-tooling after this year. Doubt Benn goes anywhere but Sharp's UFA and older, Spezza is another year to the grey too. That's 2 big parts of their top 6 in decline that will have to be replaced adequately in order for their window to remain open. Given what they've lost on defence and the prospects they're replacing them with this might just be Jim Nill accepting that it's not worth buying them out this year because this likely won't be their year anyway.

Hey. That goes for their D-Corps as well.

It's basically Klingberg and a bunch of...

At this point, I wonder if Kris Russell is this year's Cody Franson. I still think he's a very good 5th - 6th defenseman who can play top 4 minutes if required, but if he's looking for 5+ million per season, he doesn't have a good grasp of reality. 3.5 million per season on a 2-3 year deal sounds more like it to me.

They certainly like former Canucks down there in Anaheim, I'm sure the Sedins will wind up there eventually :D
