What they would actually do is look at me as I opened the door (or put them on, depending on how ready I was when they got there), and say, "Why are you wearing THOSE?" or "Are those really necessary?"
Only a couple of times did I get an honest, "Do you have to be taller than me tonight?"
My favorite was one guy telling me, "Any girl that truly loved me wouldn't want to make herself taller than me."
Now for the record, I'm 100% down with dating a shorter guy as long as 1) he's all guy, and doesn't efface himself about his stature or lack thereof and 2) he's cool with my shoes. I love my shoes, they aren't going anywhere if I have anything to say about it.
These dudes have self esteem issues.
