The east is garbage. The Cavs, Celtics, and Wizards are the only teams I can think of that are definitely better. The Raptors could also be thrown in there. After those four teams, there really isn't a sure thing to be better than the sixers. They'll compete with the Bucks and Hawks for the 5th seed if they aren't not up there with the Raptors, Wizards, and Celtics (who I think vastly overachieved last year. Unless they get BG.)

They were 13 games out of a playoff spot last year. That's a huge jump to make in one year. It's an additional 10 games to the 3rd seed.

Fultz was playing JV ball 3 years ago and he was on a squad that was 9-22 last season.....Great player on a bad team. And Embiid's ability to stay on the court is a serious question.

Simmons I can see staying healthy and blossoming into a stud.

Markelle Fultz went to DeMatha in the D.C. Catholic league. Have you seen them play? I have. Their roster has 7-8 D1 players on it every single year and their JV team is better than 95% of the varsity teams in america. Let's not act like he got cut from the varsity squad at a random public school. DeMatha is a basketball factory.

The Sixers need to go after Lowry hard.....he'd solidify the PG position for them.

Kind like Minnesota this past season... ?

A collection of young talent =/= NBA success... at least not in the near term.
That's a little different. Minnesota isn't in an easy conference. The 6ers are. I think the t wolves are going to be good in the future, but I never predicted them to make the playoffs with how loaded the west is.

The key to the Sixers' success will have a lot to do with Embiid. Once Embiid got going last year they had a stretch where they were like 10-3 (the Sixers put him on the shelf for the rest of the year shortly after that stretch). That happened prior to Dario Saric establishing himself and without Simmons or Fultz. If health does not factor in this upcoming season it would not shock me to see Philly possibly making the post season. I know everyone is expecting the Celtics to do well in free agency, but this Sixers will have tons of money as well and may soon become an attractive place to play once again. What about Gordon Hayward to the Sixers? hmmm

I don't see how or why this makes sense at this point unless the plan is to use Fultz as your SG.

You know what else doesn't make sense? Putting spinner rims on a Yugo.

Clearly. They have to spend some cash and Lowry would make that offense run....allowing Fultz to be more of scorer.

Marc Stein already said they're out of the lowry sweepstakes

A collection of young talent =/= NBA success... at least not in the near term.

They could be a 3-5 seed this year if things go well primarily because the East is looking to be even weaker next year than last year, which I didn't think could be possible.

Long term success is too hard to judge.

I'd say that they were smart to spend big on one year contracts for vets and keep money free for next season. If Embiid stays healthy, it is entirely possible that some of the big stars next year might look to come to Philly.

I highly doubt home court advantage for Philly... just too young. They'd have to be better than at least 3 of the following...

- Cleveland
- Boston
- Washington
- Toronto
- Milwaukee
- Miami

Playoffs are very realistic, though.

You are probably right. That was more best case scenario.
