If the SEC did this then Florida would only play 9 games a year.....

This, to me anyway, says that they're looking at a 10 game conference schedule. Which of course, will lead to scheduling difficulties because you have to have 7 home games to make money. That leaves 2 home games against the Mac/Conf USA/Sun Belt... followed by the conference season. I wouldn't be surprised at all if in 15 years, it's only conference play. Pretty sad really.

I think it's good to play one in-state FCS school every year to promote the state's economy and help the smaller schools with some cash.

I can't help but laugh at Alvarez.

They have Tennessee Tech and UMASS scheduled for this season.

On Barry's watch, they've played Wester Illinois, South Dakota, Wofford, Cal Poly, The Citadel, Buffalo, Bowling Green, and 4 or 5 of those games have been played in NOVEMBER.

I guess I'm wondering why the sudden change of heart...

This is one of the greatest moments of my lifetime. Along with the 02' National Championship.

Methinks we may see more MAC upsets of B1G teams.

I think everyne is well-intentioned with their pushes to drop FCS teams, but it's gonna wind up causing FCS teams to fold and hurting the popularity of college football in the long run.

Why not do both?

Play an FCS team but don't have it count as one of your twelve. FCS teams can make money still and you can still get in 12 FBS games.

The reason he wants 9 games is to go back to 3 games from the East-West, so that players will play the other schools atleast once in a 4 year career. Where as now they only have 2 divisional games per year, and 1 of them is the set rival game, so that only leaves 1 team in the rotation and a minimum of 7 years to rotate through them all.

I'm not a big fan of the idea myself honestly, for entirely different reasons. But if I had to guess, I'd bet it has something to do with recruiting and being able to tell a kid from any SEC state that they will play 1 game in their home state during the year.

I've never been a fan of the perpetual opponent idea, which is going to cause longer gaps in years between inter-divisional matchups. The problem there is too much resistance to doing away with Georgia-Auburn, Bama-Tennessee.
