Abreu's a very underrated player IMO (especially when it comes to Phillies/Yankees fans), but you're comparing the offensive stats of a corner OF and a SS. Though most people would probably tell you Jetes was a better hitter...

Abreu had longevity and durability. Thirteen consecutive seasons with 150+ games is pretty remarkable. He had a good peak too. From 98-06:

.305/.416/.513, 139 OPS+, .398 wOBA, 264 SB (caught 82 times), 93 GIDP, 856 RBI, 928 runs scored (top 10 5 times), 48.9 bWAR (30.6 Wins Above Average; also finished in the top 10 in WAR five times), 48.0 fWAR (5th over that period behind only Bonds, A-Rod, Andruw Jones, and Rolen).

For the most part, he had rated as an above average defender. His defense fell off a cliff though. He was still a good hitter up until 2012.

Abreu doesn't have any shot whatsoever at the HOF though. No one ever really viewed him as one of the best players in the league, he never finished higher than 14th in MVP voting, and he only made 2 All-Star games. I don't think he's a HOFer, but he's a lot closer than people think IMO.

oh, and just for shits and giggles... Josh Willingham has a higher career OPS+ than Jeter.
