The Adreian Payne Story: How Michigan State Star Became the Ultimate Role Model | Bleacher Report

Adreian Payne is the best story in college basketball.

no father...
mom died when he was 13...
raised by his grandmother...
special ed student...
took to tutoring (teachers said if he's willing to try, we're willing too) in a big way...
qualified for college...
heavily recruited - said he wanted to play for Izzo...
met 6-year old Lacey Holsworth on a hospital tour two years ago...
he pretty much adopted her - she and her parents pretty much adopted him - they're a team...
his grandmother died two years ago - the whole team traveled to Dayton for the funeral...
could have gone late 1st round NBA last season...
remembered his promise to grandma that he'd get a degree - the first in his family to do so...
stayed at MSU for his senior year - has had a rough time of it...
but nowhere near as rough as his "little sister" Lacey...
can there be a stronger incentive to prevail?

go green!

Man that's an awesome story.

Basically Nebraska hasn't done this well since 1998.

That's about all that can be said about it.

I agree with Dick.

We're in if we beat Wisconsin.....no questions asked.

Some guy on BTN tonight said we'd still have to win 2 more in the B1G Tourney EVEN if we had the first round bye. :L

That would be the last time Nebraska made it to the Big Dance. I would really hate to see them come this close (playing this well) and get stymied. Big Red has never won a NCAA Tournament game so they're playing for a load right now.

Side note: they should take a step forward next year...

I think it depends who you play. A win over Wisky and maybe Ohio State or Minnesota in the B1G Tourney should do it.

I still think Nebraska needs Wisconsin and 1 in the Big 10 Tourney.

Huskers aren't getting much help. Too many other bubble teams getting big wins as well.

I'm not buying it.....sure I'd like another win in the B1G tourney, but let's get real here......

If Nebraska adds a win over the #4 RPI team in the country to end the season on a stretch where they won 10 out of there last 12, which also includes a win on the road at Michigan State amongst other impressive wins....

They are in. End of story.

I really wouldn't be crushed if they don't make the NCAA's this season. The best any of us could hope for back in October/November was the NIT. Even that was a stretch. If the NIT is where Nebraska ends up, then the season was widely successful.

Next season is when we were hoping for NCAA's.

Unfortunately the last half of the season isn't the whole resume. They lost by some big margins to good teams early and lost to a couple of bad teams as well.

They have ZERO good OOC wins.

Lunardi said the committee focuses on the 2nd half of the season more.

BOOM

Yep, that entire body of work will be under review and everyone is making their case right now. The selection committee does like hot teams (solid, recent wins are huge for bubble teams) but I would think two more wins would increase their chances even greater.....obviously.

I could even see a scenario where Nebraska loses a close battle to Wisconsin but picks up 2 maybe even 3 wins in the B1G Tourney and lands a spot. Again, I think it depends who Nebraska plays and how well they play Wisconsin.

2010-11 Penn State (19-14) with no real good OOC wins and a couple of bad losses, picked up 3 wins in the B1G Tourney and a 10 seed in the real tourney. Like Nebraska they had some nice conference wins.

It'll come down to Beilein and Miles. If Wisconsin wins the B1G Tourney then I think you have to toss Ryan's name in too.
