3 freshman, not 4. Justin Jackson is definitely good enough for the NBA. He is just starting to get recognition. If he has a strong tournament, he could be gone after this season. He definitely isn't going to be at MD for four years.

I think he will stay one more year to boost that draft status a little but he will be in the NBA for sure. Also, I don't think MD will lose in the first round of the tournament and that's mainly because they will have a high seed. I think they could win the first two and depending on their third round match up they might have a chance at a third.

Don't get me wrong Happ is great but his FT shooting is terrible. He cost himself 7 points at the line tonight. He mist a front end of a 1 and 1 twice. As a team they're shooting about 65% now. I can shoot 65% with my eyes closed and left handed. The combination of Happ and Hayes shoot more than half of this team's FT's. FT's are going to cost us a game in the tournament for sure.

Badgers were 14/45 for their last 45 shots of the game. Thankfully they had 20 offensive boards. It felt like at one point they were just chucking to grab another rebound and drain the clock. Despite the pathetic shooting from three point land and FT's again Badgers still won by 14 points which is pretty good considering Illinois has been one of the best home teams in the BIG this season.

Oh they're not making the tourney but I didn't expect them to. Preseason I said 14-17 ds they're much better than I thought they'd be. Freshman are really playing well and Iowa has a couple really nice pieces coming in the next 2 years. Could be a legit contender in 2 years. Jok may be back on Sunday for Nebraska but no real point in rushing it since they're playing so well without him. Could be a dangerous team in the B10 tourney

I wouldn't say they're don just yet as they have a favorable schedule up until the Maryland game. I put them in the same category as Maryland before this season started as both teams have a stud future NBA player and then a bunch of freshmen. Maryland has a little easier schedule than Iowa so far but their tough part of the schedule starts this week.

Iowa could be the Michigan of this year in the BIG tournament.

Thoughts on tonight's game vs Maryland

IMG_7403.gif

Yeah how'd that work out for you?

My team is one of the grittiest teams I've seen in a while. They are young, their bigs absolutely suck and their bench is really struggling. Yet this is what they do, they win close games at an unbelievable rate and they win on the road.

Maryland is going to be fascinating test case for what the committee is going to value this year, especially for the top 16 reveal next Saturday. They are currently 43 in BPI, 39 in KenPom and 36 in Sagarin. Basically based on those metrics Maryland would be a 9/10 seed. Based on resume they would be in the 4/5 seed range IMO.

I meant that Maryland was going to kill us, lol. It was close then I thought it was going to be though.

Too funny, sorry I misunderstood. I actually thought this was the game Maryland finally lost a close game on the road.

As I said before the BIG officials are pathetic. How they missed the obvious turnover by Heurter late in the game as well as the ball off Melo's leg (why no replay?) was incredible. Of course earlier in the game you guys got horrible calls your way too.

Northwestern looks legit.

Not vs legit teams. Wow, they have no defense on the perimeter or in the paint and have no post presence on offense. Their best win was to a depleted and crashing Indiana team while they lost to mediocre teams and now get destroyed by Purdue. I'm beginning to think their success is a product of the BIG being bad. Northwestern have great scoring guards but that's all I see. No rebounding, no defense, etc. No excuse for the Badgers not to win out now.

Eh no need to over react. NW has some good wins and this was the first game they really got beato badly and even this loss occurred without their best player.NW will be fine. Purdue beats a lot if good teams in West Lafayette

Still, they lack defense and post presence. I did say they have great scoring guards but not much else after that. Purdue, Wisconsin and MSU are bad match ups for them. I still believe they will end up in the top 4 or 5 in the BIG but highly doubt they will make it past the first round of the tournament. At least they will still make their first tournament though. I guess I was just expecting them to be better today as well.

Thankfully you didn't go ape shit on him like I sometimes do. I figured he meant OSU would be destroyed just because they've been dreadful recently.

Yeah I actually think they've been really solid on D this year so far but they do lack a post game. However there are a lot of teams in the NCAA that don't have much of an inside presence. Purdue is a bad matchup for a lot of c teams with their size and if they're shooting well I still think they're the best team in the B10. I could see NW winning a game in the tourney with the right matchup

I agree with the assessment of Maryland. Their big men are horrible and they have yet to play, let alone beat, a good team. But that's more a function of the league sucking this year. My concern is the schedule will make it appear as if they are entering the NCAA Tourney struggling as they do look at the last 10 games.

But as said they should probably only lose 3-4 more games the rest of the way so probabpy a 6 seed in a rebuilding year so I'll take that.

LOL That is the type of game they always win, guess you can't win every one. But they were right there with a damned good team, Swanigan is the best player I have seen all year.

I thought you guys had the W at one point but it was still a good game. Swany is great offensively since he's a beast inside and out. On defense he's very suspect.
