The way it stands right now, I would be surprised if Ameer is even invited to New York. I think he is deserving to be invited but would still be surprised. Not shocked but surprised.

The Heisman has turned into a QB award. Right now there is Mariota, Winston, Golson, Kenny Hill, Taysom Hill, Marshall, Prescott, & Hundley. Then non QBs are Gurley, Ameer, Gordon, and Cooper.

Golson has Stanford and Florida St coming up.
If Hundley plays like the Arizona St game and he will be right there.
Auburn keeps winning and Marshall will be right there.
Winston has the backlash but if they go undefeated then he will be right there.
Gurley is the best RB in the country.
Kenny Hill has the perfect offense to be right there.

Ameer is great but I think Nebraska has to go undefeated. What also hurts is the negative thoughts of the conference he plays in. That also hurts Gordon.

I am not hating on Ameer at all. Just looking at the overall landscape and the way the award has been going lately.

Absolutely.

I've said from the beginning of the season that either Nebraska needs to go undefeated AND Ameer get over 1800 rushing yds, OR Ameer needs to break the 2000 yd rushing mark.

Yep. Can't drop a game.

This is such a weird game this week. I don't have a clue what to make of it, but if we survive it, we'll cruise for 3 weeks and then Wiscy is the final real test. It's not THAT unreasonable to say we could come out of this bullshit unscathed.

Has anyone ever broken the 2,000 yard mark and not won it, assuming 2 didn't break it the same year?

Picture for one moment the confidence level of Nebraska's players if they can somehow come out of EL with a victory. Turnovers will be SO critical.

14 times has someone rushed for 2K+ in a season. Only 5 of those have won Heismans.

No one has won a Heisman when rushing for 2k+ since Salaam.

Troy Davis did it twice
Byron Hanspard
JJ Arrington
Ray Rice
Larry Johnson
Matt Forte
Ladanian Tomlinson
Kevin Smith

Rashaan Salaam
Ricky Williams
Mike Rozier
Marcus Allen
Barry Sanders

Ameer is invited if he can keep it up. it goes without saying, he's got to have a huge game against MSU. I think his campaign is pretty much over if MSU shuts him down.

As far as winning out, I think the one hope Ameer has is his off the field demeanor. With Winston's actions at FSU, the voting members might be looking for that person that has an off the field presence like ameer, which might get him enough votes to at least get invited even with a loss to MSU or Wiscy, again assuming he keeps it up on the field.

Mark Schlabach says Ameer jumps in the lead of the Heisman race if he has a 100+ yard game at Michigan State and Nebraska wins.

As of now he is on pace for an Invite, but not one of the "serious contenders" (in the eyes of the nation, I see him as a serious contender obviously)

If he can hit those numbers though I think he becomes one of the guys that actually starts getting heisman attention, and we all know once the media favorably campaigns for a guy it's hard to stop

My apologies, I said no one has rushed for 2,000+ and won the Heisman since Salaam but clearly Ricky Williams did it in 1998.

My bad!!!

5 of the 16 times a player has rushed for 2000+ they have won the Heisman. Ameer is on pace for 1999 rushing yards.
