Tennessee Volunteers football could rise over next three seasons - SEC Blog - ESPN
Tennessee's days as an SEC afterthought are nearly over. Butch Jones' Volunteers are the easy choice as the conference's program that will rise within the next few years -- possibly as soon as this season.

It's not just that Jones is guiding the program with a steady hand, providing Tennessee's first legitimate coaching stability since the days of Phil Fulmer. It's not just that the Vols play in the SEC East, which is a much easier division to win than the difficult West. And it's not just that Jones' staff is recruiting at a high level, inking back-to-back top-five classes in 2014 and 2015.

It's the combination of all of those factors that makes Tennessee an obvious pick to reclaim the status as an Eastern Division power it enjoyed for much of Fulmer's tenure.

UT set for long-awaited switch to the Swoosh on Wednesday | Local News | Times Free Press
KNOXVILLE — After 17 months of anticipation, mystery and a little bit of controversy, the circled date almost has arrived.

July 1, 2015.

When the clock strikes midnight Tuesday night, Tennessee officially will become a Nike school, fulfilling an announcement the university made in January 2014.

At noon Wednesday, the Volunteers will launch their new apparel partnership with a live stream on UTsports.com hosted by former Tennessee defensive back and current NFL analyst Charles Davis and the SEC Network's Maria Taylor. There, Tennessee will unveil the new uniforms for each of its teams. It's expected to be quite the production.

"Nike is the right partner for the University of Tennessee moving forward," athletic director Dave Hart said in the release announcing the new partnership for the Vols, who have been with Adidas since 1997.

Tennessee should win its SEC opener at Florida before getting Arkansas and Georgia in Knoxville. After an open date and a loss at Alabama, the Vols have a chance to finish strong with SEC games at Kentucky, versus South Carolina, at Missouri and versus Vanderbilt. If the young talent matures quickly, the Big Orange could surprise.

Tennessee betting lines already on the move -

RTI Talk

It's a cat-and-mouse game between Vegas and the heavy hitters, who rush in immediately once lines are placed to try to put big money on games/teams they think Vegas over or undervalued in the initial odds.

These lines stayed the same for UT:
-1 vs. Arkansas
Pick vs. Georgia
-2.5 at Missouri

But several games moved, which isn't really surprising considering Tennessee is one of the most unpredictable teams heading into this season.

Tennessee...
- Moved from a 3-point favorite against Oklahoma to a 1-point favorite
- Moved from a 2.5-point favorite against Florida to a 3-point favorite
- Moved from a 10-point underdog against Alabama to a 9-point underdog
- Moved from a 17-point favorite against Vandy to a 20-point favorite

So all-in-all, it's fair to say that the initial bettors either agreed with Vegas or, in every case except the Oklahoma game, thought the Vols were being undervalued. The South Carolina, Kentucky, North Texas, Western Carolina and Bowling Green games weren't mentioned in this article.
