this posts is just so stupid I dont even have the words for it. First- one of the reasons he is so valuable to the Cavs is that the Cavs have his Bird Rights and are able to go over the cap to sign him.

If the Heat had Whitesides Bird rights (which they dont) and had to compete against a team to keep him or lose him for nothing- of course they should pay whatever to keep him.

honestly I have never seen a less intelligent or nuanced post then this one. Congrats on the worst post of the day.

Since when does having "Bird rights" automatically make overpaying a player "so valuable?" Just because a team has a players "Bird rights" doesn't mean he's worth overpaying. It just means that they can pay him more than anyone else.

In short, having TT's Bird rights, doesn't make him worth what the Cavs will have to pay to keep him. Teams let players whom they have Bird rights to walk all the time. They do it when the player demands more than the team feels he's worth.

Also, we're all paying attention to the TT thing because we're about to watch a player get grossly overpaid. For someone who averages what he does and is an offensive liability, especially from the FT line $90+ million is outrageous, even when the cap jumps next year.

Here is the thing that is holding stuff up.

The best Thompson could do this year in restricted free agency if another team signed him is a 4 year deal worth 70 million. Thats the BEST he could do under the rules.

The Cavs have no interest in going over THE BEST THOMPSON could do with another team under the rules.

Thompson - even if he was offered a max by one of the two teams with "max" money left- would not take it. He wants more than the MAX he could get from another team - 4 years 70 million. The Cavs would likely be HAPPY if he signed an offer sheet- and they only had to commit 4 years to him- instead of the 5 thy are eligible for with his Bird Rights.

To me- that is the hold up.

the most he can get from other teams is 4 years 70 by operation of the collective bargaining. The Cavs are not going to go over the BEST he could do with another team- especially when his best fit - both for the Cavs AND FOR HIM- is here.

That is why there has been little movement thus far- that and because there is no reason for a hard and fast deadline until the season starts.

The part that is messing things up is that next year- the max will be 4 years about 82 million (25% of the cap) that he could get from another team.

one position? honestly did you even watch the playoffs or have been paying attention to the NBA? This is where I just get a loss for words at total and complete ignorance. Did you see how teams went small? Did you see Thompson playing center during the playoffs? Did you see Love and Thompson playing together a lot during the regular season as they COMPLIMENT EACHOTHER PERFECTLY?

to say that Thompson is "only" a power forward is completely and totally born out of ignorance and stupidity and anyone who watched the CAvs last season with knows that- or watched hte NBA at all with the move towards smaller lineups knows that. Apparently its something you missed.

And you had the audacity to call Heatles post the worst post of the day. Power forward is 1 position. TT and Love both play power forward. That means the Cavs will have to spend nearly $40 million on 1 position. Thompson and Love complimenting each other doesn't mean shit when they are unlikely to be on the floor at the same time very much.

You really should actually learn a little about basketball and salary caps before embarrassing yourself.

Remember, he compared Jabari Parker and Paul Pierce as being similar players to one another yesterday. LOL

thats not only your opinion- but if you watched and listened to the playoff broadcasts - thats the opinion of a great many people associated with the league. Not just you or me.

Opinions don't have to write the checks, pay the luxury tax, and play under James' rules.
Gilbert does.

I suggest you going back and reading the Livingston article, and then come back here and tell us even one thing in it that isn't factually totally correct or illogical.

That's how it should be, but that's not how it will be unless James says so, and why would he?

who would you compare those two? Or are you just the type of guy that whines and complains and criticizes without ever actually offering your own opinion?

IF I Was a Bulls fan I would still be devastated by how last season ended- not being able to get passsed a Cavs team that will not be vulnerable like last year for a LONG time. That was the Bulls chance and they totally blew it. No Love, no Varejao- 1st year coach, Kyrie beat to shit....

and you let Mathew Dellavadova get in your head and rattle you and be the high scorer on your own floor to put you out of the playoffs. There was no way Thibs was coming back after that debacle.
Actually, I have a life outside of watching the NBA, so I'm okay.

And the best comparison for Parker is clearly Melo. Parker is nothing like Pierce. Giannis doesn't have a good comparison because the NBA hasn't seen someone like him. He's nothing like Pippen though.

Stop acting like an NBA expert. It's very clear that you know very little about basketball.

well all i can say is that if you believe that Thompson and even Love only played power forward last year- you are 100% completely and totally wrong. ESPECIALLY in todays modern NBA with small lineups, spacing, shooting, and how valuable it is to have a big man who is good at defending the pick and roll..

of course- you are a Lakers fan and have bee nwatching the archaic Scott run a team like it was the NBA 15-20 years ago so I guess I can see where you fail to see how the NBA is changing- all though man--- if you would have watched the playoffs or the Cavs regular season at all- you would have seen the ample time that both Thompson and Love played together.

how the hell are they are on the court togeteher over? LOL they both play PF!!! how is it possible?!! is it against the rules?! lol....

unreal. its just so ridiculously stupid and ignores the reality of the situation that played right out in front of your eyes.

if by "bitch" you mean the guy who stole your best player and made your team lottery bound while increasing his own net worth by half a bill, WHILE also putting together the favorite to win the championship and making his team the center of the league - then you are spot on ;)

All I can say is WOW, but didn't you claim that Miller wasn't mostly a SF when on the court?

Those rings still say "Heat" on them. Plus, got Winslow out of it.

OMG.....how did Love and Thompson play on the court together if they play the same position!! lol....this has to be investigated immediately!

Oh- wait? Thompson played center when Love was in? Just as he did a TON when the Cavs went small- which is growing INCREASINGLY common in a league that favors small lineups, spacing and shooting? IS that legal? lol.....ohh just too funny.

I'm very excited about this team.

Matter of fact, I've backed off my Beasley or bye position and reached out to see what viable season ticket extensions are available.

maybe if Arison was willing to spend some of that money instead of going El Cheapo- hed still have LeBron- instead of taking a trip to the lotto and wasting the last few effective years of Bosh and Wade's careers.

It is a shame the last few years of Wade/Bosh/Riley's careers will be wasted wallowing in mediocrity because Arison wanted to save a few million bucks here or there.

LOL, the Heat organization without Lebron is still worth more than the Cavs with Lebron. How fucking pathetic is that for the Cavs?

Right..and James doesn't play PG 80% of the time?
I guess Kyrie shouldn't be allowed on the court with him?

Learn the game.

Teams can play with 2 PF's, 4 G's, 2 C's...or whatever the hell they want to do..
As long as the player count doesn't go over 5, it's all good.

Didn't the Cavs waste Lebron's first 8 years of his career by not getting anyone to play by him because your management didn't know what the fuck they were doing? Poor Lebron, he's wasting the last of his good years in that shit hole.
