Miami Heat

Moore: Avoided disaster with Dwyane Wade, and avoided drama with Goran Dragic. Luol Deng opted in to give them a good starter and trade chip, Gerald Green was a great value signing and Amar'e Stoudemire is a good spot-minute veteran. The Heat are stacked. Grade: A+

Harper: The contract stuff with Dwyane Wade was bizarre, but it ended up working with the Heat maintaining flexibility moving forward and Wade recouping some money. Locking up Goran Dragic with the five-year deal was big because now they get to toss out the trio of Chris Bosh, Wade and Dragic, which didn't get to happen once after the trade. The one-year deal with Gerald Green is a minimal risk, but he's going to need to play solid defense for the first time in his career to be on the court. If that doesn't happen, they'll still be missing some shooting depth on the wings. This Heat team looks like they're set to bounce back though. Grade: A-

Wiggy gave us an F though.

Not sure where Harper got the "maintaining flexibility " stuff.
GM/Cap guru Wigmaster says we don't.

Wiggy's a dumb fuck. I'm scared for those that have him as a lawyer. Here's hoping that he's not a criminal or divorce attorney.

Funny that Wiggy is speaking about Bosh being a SG while Cleveland just paid K-Love a max contract to sit outside and shoot spot up 3's. Nearly half of Love fg attempts per game last year with Cleveland were 3's while less than 25% of Bosh fg attempts per game with Miami were 3's. If there is anyone who is playing like a SG it is clearly Love

Bosh was at the summer league game sitting with Spoelstra. He looked good ( healthy).
Whiteside was sitting with the team looking as big as ever.
McRoberts was also there.

It really will come down to health for the top 4-5 teams in the East.
Cavs obviously deserve to be favored but I don't think their room for error is near as much as Cavs fans believe it is.

To be fair, most of the Cavs fans here are tolerable, even shane. But Wiggy, along with Gilbert being the owner, is why I never want to see the Cavs win the title.

I used to believe the lawyer stuff.
Don't any more.
Just read the last few posts on the Cavs Fans thread.
If he seriously is comprehending things as he's posting here, I seriously doubt he can comprehend case law.

Completely agree. I think the Cavs have to be the favorite because of LeBron. Miami has gotten a ton better though. We could go 10 deep. McBob, Amare, Green, Winslow... that's a solid 9. That's without counting Haslem, Chalmers, Birdman, Ennis, or Johnson... obviously some of these guys are making the team, but this Heat team is deep. I can't wait for basketball season to start.

Yep amazing the job the front office has done. Glad to see this organization not lay down and fold like a cheap tent when Lebron left and hope to win lottery

Bosh is a shooting guard???

Yes, he foolishly fell in love a little bit with the 3-ball when Lebron was there no doubt.
But he is not some Dirk Nowitzki type. He is not quite that bad. He can still bang a little as well down low.

However, He plays traditional big man low post and rim defense. He is 100% a big on defense.
He might not be a Duncan, Jordan, or Howard level post defender.
But he is that next tier of solid defensive big men.

The HEAT won in 2013 mostly because of the completely unrecognized and underappreciated defense of Bosh.

I remember the Boston series in 2012 (same series Lebron went out of his mind in game 6 at Boston). Bosh was recovering from a strained abdominal muscle and missed most of the Indiana and Boston series. After Miami jumped out to a 2-0 lead, Boston won 3 straight given the length advantage that Garnett had over Miami's bigs. Once Bosh came back, he was neutralized as Garnett and Bosh have the same body type. Lebron won that series for Miami, but Bosh provided the counter punch that Miami needed to hold off Boston.

Bosh is a good defender. I just think its funny LeBron averaged more rebounds per game there than Bosh did. You have to admit that 7 rebounds a game is pretty lame for a "power forward".

Bosh is still an all-star caliber player.

Well I would say for his size Lebron is an elite rebounder. Bosh is a pretty good rebounder, but every since he has been shooting more outside it seems like his numbers dropped a little.

Justise Winslow? Heard of him?

Miami added Gerald Green, Amare, and Justice Winslow to a bench that was literally full of D-Leaguers like Henry Walker last year. Resigning your own players..not a big deal. Especially if the player is expected to return (wade/LeBron)... But a guy like Goran Dragic is a bit nicer. He could have left, took less stayed. I know it was mostly expected, but certainly wasn't a lock.

So let's not count resigning old players... agreed. If we don't count the Spurs, What team has improved more this offseason than the Heat? Name them.
your buddy had said "in free agency" they had improved the team. I said- especially up to that time when they had signed no one- that I had not seen how the team improved in free agency. And like I said- if the Heat "improved in free agency" by resigning their guys- then the Cavs had one of the best offseasons in the history of the NBA.

and Turnup is just a complete and total liar. If he can show ANYWHERE where I said the HEat's offseason was an F then I will change my avatar to a Michael Beasley one and keep it for the next 2 months. But it doesnt exist- as much fun as that would be.

In Free agency? vet. min signings of Green, Amare? Id say that is a C+ at best though.

Just checking- are we giving teams credit for resigning their own free agents? If thats the case- I will give the Cavs an A+ since they resigned the best player in the league and they signed Kevin Love to a 5 year deal. Again- if resigning guys is a measure of how much you improved in free agency (which again- I think is stupid) - I would give the Heat a B+ for giving Dragic 18 a year and Wade 20 for one year. Like I said yesterday- while i certainly do not think Dragic is an elite point guard- he is a very good one and 18M a year for him is reasonable when you consider guys like REggie Jackson are getting similar dollars- and Dragic is better than Jackson/Knight/ etc. Wade for one year and twenty million keeps the Heats options open for next year- but I also think Wade is keeping his own options open and sees all the money that will be available out there- and if some team like the Hornets- who will have ample cap room- especially with Al Jeff coming off the books- thinks they are close- and offers Wade 3 years 60 million- I think Wade could definitely leave. With all those teams having just oodles of cap room- everyone that is half decent is going to get paid a TON next year.

As for the draft?- Obviously one of the advantages of winning 37 games is getting a decent lotto pick- and having Winslow fall was fortuitous. I think Winslow could have gone top 5 as I think he is very similar to Michael Kidd-Gilchrist on the Hornets who went #2 overall a few years ago- but it looks like some teams were scared away by his offense. It takes a while to develop from a 19 year old kid into a legit perimeter defender- but MKG is now one of the best in the league after a couple years of seasoning- and Winslow could get to that point in a few years- though I think MKG is a slightly better athlete- but I think Winslow's shot is not quite as broken as MKG's was. Very similar players though in my opinion.

I know you never directly said we got an F.
What you have done though, is constantly bring up last years results and implying that just because we finished the season with Dragic/Whiteside on the roster that we should expect similar results.
That's wishful thinking, but very unrealistic.

I just think its hilarious that people like you think the Heat are the equal of the Hawks and could give the Cavs a run for their money- after the Hawks won 60+ games-the Cavs made the Finals- while the Heat won 37. After finishing behind Boston and Brooklyn and falling apart at the end of last year- ESPECIALLY after all these posts about how after the Dragic trade how a Miami/Cleveland series could be interesting (Ill find those post- a TON of them by Heat fans)- only to fall flat on your face and end up in the lotto- dont ya think you should prove it for AT LEAST A month or two in the regular season??- ESPECIALLY considering how teams like the Bucks and Wizards and Pacers all have stars in their primes or entering their primes and finished ahead of you last year?

What was the hawks record from February through may? Also did you forget one of their top players is in Toronto now? They're a high 40 win team this season

Probably not better because LBJ is the best in the world but the offensive system is better.

Our offense was damn good with Lebron because we had Lebron and the opponent did not.

With this new system our offense is really good because the amount of ball movement and player movement taking place on each possession.

I'm just glad we didn't go the Cavs route from 4 years ago and waved the white flag to be a shit team for the next 4 years.
You know you're going to rustle some Cavs jimmies with that one. But, by all means.

The Heat are now simply following the Spurs gameplan - move the ball and play unselfishly. Hope that translates to a title in the coming years.

Wow, nice win. Can't say the Heat are better without Lebron, but I'm not sure their that much worse. Hopefully D-Wade can stay healthy and they can keep it up. It's nice to be able to like them again.
I still remember Wiggy saying Wade was done and the Heat would likely miss the playoffs. It's only November, but it's still a ridiculous statement nonetheless.

here is an oldy but goody...lol
