Yeah, Mathews has been good the last few years as the third option behind a very dynamic 1/2 punch. Now he's going to have to be a 1 or 2 scorer and he will not look that good. I caught a lot of blazer games last year and he will suffer without a player that can get to the basket at will. He got a lot of good shots because Lillard was collapsing the defense. He's not a shot creator and I don't see anyone on the mavs who will be able to create shots for him. However, him, Parsons, Dirk, and DJ on the floor at the same time is a PGs dream. Maybe Harris can become the comeback player of the year with all of this shooting on the perimeter and DJ in the post. It will be an interesting year for the Mavs.

Mathews has also never been a winner either.

He's a solid player but I think he benefitted from playing with 2 beasts in LA and Lilliard. He was drastically over-paid like a lot of players this free agency.

1 of the best bargains was Lou Williams.

Are you implying that the Cavs have ever intentionally tanked since 2010?
lol....implying? when you rent out your cap space to the Lakers to take Walton off their hands- you are tanking! if you take Baron DAvis carcase with like 2 years 38 million leftt in order to get a lotto pick you are tanking, when you trade JJ Hickson for Omri Casspi and a 1st round pick you are tanking, when you agree to take Mo Speights and Wayne Ellingtons deals in order to get a 1st rounder you are tanking, when sit Kyrie every time he has a hangnail in order to get one more ping pong ball in the hopper you are tanking, when you continue to employ Byron Scott you are tanking!

The Cavs did a major tank job for 3 years- and then lucked into the Wiggins pick like fucking crazy- which just became Kevin Love for 5 more years....

yah, pretty blatant tanking in order to get lotto picks, and keeping cap space to rent it out to people.....the OKC model, cleveland model, now sixers model.....should be interesting to see how it all turns out....

Mo signing at least was cheap...2 years 4.3 million. .....didnt mo score 50 in a game last year?...delly might played some solid d at times but holy shit he should not be bringing the ball up....Mo will be a very nice backup to KI...and Delly should still be resigned to a backup defensive role- all though Delly can shoot a solid 3...

Cavs just need a wing now--- if that is JR thats cool...with Andy back, signing Mo, and an increased role for Love they wont need smiths offense as much but he did play well up until the finals when he was expected to be a main option.......if they gave JR 2 years 14 i would be ok with it- nothing longer though

I guess the trades for Deng, Hawes, etc....were just for show?
Gilbert was HELL BENT on trying to make the playoffs/win.

Sometimes you need to take on a bad contract to get...but intentionally losing was never in his plans.
Why are you leaving out the perks/pluses that came along with the bad contracts?

He swore he'd bring a ring to the Cavs before James won in Miami.

How can you be so blind as to not see the difference between total dysfunction vs what you now think you saw?

ANYTHING happening now is because James has Gilbert jumping through hoops.

I just can barely stand waiting another summer to see the sequel.

OKC model- 0 rings...

Cavs model-0 rings...

Sixers model-0 rings since the days of Moses and STILL no visible sign of when they'll EVER make anything RESEMBLEING a playoff run. Currently with more bigs on their roster than they know what to do with...

Well there ya go. Teams have gotta follow "the model"...if you want your trophy case filled with cobwebs and dust bunnies...

Cheap for Mo, not for Gilbert when you multiply by 3.75 or more.

Until we see where the Haywood contract goes, I'll reserve judgement on the roster.

gilbert did try to win that 4th year- all though the plan always was to try and get a max free agent last summer to add to all the young guys-that last year when they dealt for deng and hawes- and signed jack and bynum- year 4- they did try- and bynum ended up being a huge mistake, waiters and kyrie kinda feuded- but they maintained their cap flexiblity to try and execute on the long term plan which was to get 3 years of lotto picks- with an extra one squeezed in from the baron davis trade, and all the other extra late first roundrs- and add a max player.....if it wasnt lebron it wouldve have been gordon heyward or someone like him to add to wiggins, kyrie, thompson, waiters at hte time, zeller (who really played well in boston), varejao, . If you think Gilbert was trying to win before that 4th year you are taking some major bath salts.

You are so obsessed lol. Who cares if he pays the tax, no one does lol. The Nets paid a huge tax and they werent even any good. This roster is 10x better than that one.

if they dont do another thing they are easily best in the East and I think will be the overall favorite. I wonder what the vegas odds are right now.

I have no clue what the Sixers end game is.
Ok City, on the other hand built a very solid roster but there was no way to overcome all of the injuries.

To even imply that the Cavs got James back because of tanking is just insane.

James is back because he is honorary owner. Period.

yah....i have no lue why he acts like paying the tax is this negative thing---- i think its amazing that Gilbert is willing to go above and beyond to try and wina title. Good for him. You pray for owners like Gilbert.

if you think LeBron would have come back to that roster if they didnt have kyrie and love your insane. LeBron went to the place where he believed he had the best chance to win going forward while getting paid the max.

I would hate to think that for approx 250M they wouldn't be favored.
You're at the desperation point of nothing to gain and everything to lose.

Again, it's heavily weighted because they are in the East.
I'd bet though, that if it played out like last year, whoever comes out of the West would be favored in the Finals and for sure if they have HCA.

Yeah, he's NEVER gonna find an owner so willing to give away his dignity like Gilbert is apparently willing to...

Btw, i guess SOME people have forgotten that my fellow Morningside High alumnus Byron Scott has actually coached a team to the finals...

Not claiming he's world class, but i HIGHLY doubt he sucks...ESPECIALLY bad enough to be called a "tank move..."

I disagree.
Kylie and Love combined hadn't even sniffed the playoffs.
For you to think that Riley would have ever let the Heat slip is totally naive.
If you take the Heat out of the equation, there were plenty of other very nice rosters with plenty of cap space.

The only thing that Gilbert had to offer that nobody else would is exactly what you are seeing now.

I might never be a billionaire, but I'll always be a man.
If I were Gilbert and James told me that he wouldn't even begin thinking about resigning his contract until I paid his buddy/agent twice what he was worth , then x 3.75 I'd politely tell him that he was 0-8 for me and tell him to hit the road if that's how he felt.

Gilbert can't though, because he promised him total control of these things.

Let's see him prove me wrong.
He's bidding against himself on a restricted player.

You mean the same Gilbert who was the biggest proponent of a hard cap during the last CBA?
That's my issue with him. Personally I enjoy watching James take his dignity.
It wasn't James fault that he wrote that letter and left it up for 4 years.
Guess it keeps going back to that karma thing.

So, when 2 giant douches reunite and collide, I'm always expecting something will happen as it did last month.

I'm willing to bet right now you're still ringless a year from now.
