Hey Mattola, the zombie thread is over there

The only thing I don't get is why she still married him after getting shitkicked

Pretty typical abused woman behaviour. I don't know why, and people with a hell of a lot more expertise in the field don't really know either, but abused women commonly just cling to the abuser. Even after brutal attacks. It's a weird psychological thing.

Her remarks apologizing for "her role" in the assault are typical as well. This woman needs help. The sooner the better too because, whether she knows it deep down or not, she has an elevated chance of ending up dead by her husband's hand if she doesn't get help.

Agreed. The guy should be facing jail time.

Violent offenders should not be offered the intervention program option. It's a cash grab though. I'd bet that Rice paid more than $1000 bucks to be entered into that program (not including lawyers fees of course).

So I guess the Ravens get a great deal here, huh? They get out of an expensive contract with an overrated player and get to look like the good guys all at once.

The only thing I don't get is why the video is just NOW coming out. Bizarre.

They aren't getting out of the contract without taking a cap hit for it. Next season they are facing $9.5 million of dead cap money that they can do nothing about. That's pretty shitty.

The casino that Rice was in that night just happened to close for good this year. There is speculation a former casino employee decided to get something for their troubles and sold the security footage.

For a second, I thought it was Plaxico Burress. I would have believed.

I saw it first hand growing up. And you are dead on. Simply leaving is not often realized as an option.

I have seen more than a few making comments about his money and fame and what she's gonna do now that its all dried up. I am sure all of those people are in healthy relationships themselves.

Good jorb New Jersey

1) If the video existed, it was coming out. Information secrecy is a myth anymore, right Jennifer Lawrence?
2) The authorities already had the video, and a number of reports said all interested parties saw it. It's only the *public* that is now seeing it, and only now is the content an issue.

It made me sick to watch the talking points be regurgitated on ESPN, NBC, NFL network last night. "Oh, this video changes everything, we were misled, had we known the full extent..." All bullshit. She went into the elevator with him upright. She came out on the ground. Either there was a second puncher inside the elevator, he gave her a massage and she fell asleep or he knocked her out. The existence of the video doesn't change shit, other than to disprove the hyperbolic arguments.

I wanted to throw my TV last night when I saw one of the chucklefucks on the NFL Network say that "if there were video of Michael Vick drowning and electrocuting dogs, the feelings towards him would be different".

No. No they wouldn't. Not in a normal, non sociopath's mind they wouldn't.

I'm with you on most of what you said, but not this part.

I think video would have made a HUGE difference regarding Vick. It's one thing to imagine (if you can stomach it) what he did to those dogs, but if it were there in living colo(u)r for everyone to see with their own eyes, it would be a lot different.

The surveillance video being leaked to the public via TMZ did change everything about this case. The NFL and the Ravens did a complete change in direction within what, a few hours following it reaching public domain?

Since Rice has been offered and entered the intervention program, the charges were dismissed. He probably will get another chance in the NFL judging by how many of his colleagues have committed crimes and have been granted reinstatement to football after suspension.

Still though, it looks like there will likely be further critical thinking on Goodell, as he comes out of this looking pretty shitty. He already made a public appeal to the fans that he got this one wrong even before TMZ dropped the bombshell. Now Rog has made a decision that completely runs against the amendment he and the union decided on when a player is involved in a DV dispute.

I see what you're saying, but it irks me that it's real and valid in the minds of people.

Michael Vick drowned, burned and electrocuted dogs after forcing them to fight each other to the point where they were blinded and bleeding to death in order for him to bet and make money on their torture. I don't think seeing video of it should change in any way shape or form how disgusting a human being people think he is. He did that. He admitted to that. But he's a "feelgood story" and a "redeemed man" only because we didn't have to witness what he did? If we did see it, only then would he be filth? I disagree. He is a disgusting piece of human trash. Video or not. Shame it can't be seen that way more often.

The only thing that changed in the Ray Rice situation since February is now everyone (and not just the Ravens and the NFL) sees how brutal he was. The video doesn't change how hard his fist met her face. It doesn't change how long she was unconscious. It changes no facts before or after. It only changes the fact that whole world is justified in thinking the Ravens and the NFL poorly addressed it. But it doesn't change the fact that he punched a woman unconscious. The league and the team didn't apparently take issue with what he did. They take issue with how their handling of it is perceived, and only because of the video.

And that's wrong, IMO.

I understand what you're saying, and I'm not arguing that the lack of video makes him less terrible, just that it changes the way he's seen. I liken it to some people being visual learners or the difference between reading the book and watching the movie.

Some people have a hard time getting a full understanding of things based solely on what you say. But when you draw on the whiteboard or show them a picture they get it. Same thing with books and movies. It's one thing to read the description of Middle Earth, but then when you get to see how it was brought to life on screen, you get a much different impression.

wow Ray Rices wife (they got married after right?) is defending him and saying the NFL over reacted and everyone is being too judgmental. I mean yeah I guess we are right for laying her out and dragging her out. we all should be ashamed of ourselves.

If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make us feel alone, take all happiness away, you’ve succeeded on so many levels.

Keep in mind, this is pretty much textbook for how women who are abused react. She was abused, knocked out, subsequently forced to back her husband up in front of NFL officials who were all men and who allowed her abuser to be present, and is now being forced to relive said abuse on national television over and over again.

Don't blame the victim. There are far too many women out there stuck in abusive relationships because of many different fears.
