Seems like a pretty big fall for the Bears they have too many strong points to be a 4 win team, at worst I could see them being an 8 win team though, too big of a leap for the Panthers, the Patriots should be 13-14 wins unless Brady gets hurt.

I can understand the low records in the NFC West, they deserve that after last year's first losing record division champion.

I am not 100% sure on these records, but Didnt Minnesota go from a 13-3 team to a 6-10 team last year? Tampa went from 3-13 to 10-6, Chiefs went from 4-12 to 10-6. Dallas went from 10-6 to 6-10.

IMO Chicago won 4 games last year they should have lost.

You're right, there is a history of such leaps from one year to the next. There is also usually a pretty clear reason for it. From the outside, it seems like the Favre circus tore the Vikings apart and Childress lost the team. Somewhat similar with the Cowboys, Romo's injury hurt the team and after losses piled up the team quit on Wade.

With the Chiefs and Tampa, it's just good things coming together for two teams with quality coaches in their 2nd years. Mastering the lessons learned from their growing pains the year before.

I just don't see those negatives in place for that type of epic collapse by the Bears. They went 5-1 against the NFC North last year. Now, I don't think they'll have that type of success this year, as Detroit is getting better and the Vikings should get better with McNabb. I think they'll stick around at 10 wins, they have a lot of experience in their coaching staff (3 assistants were former NFL HCs), plus a good amount of talent spread out on the offense and defense.

Oh, forget what I said about those things not being in place for the Bears to collapse. The contract disputes with Briggs and Forte will be enough of a distraction to play a major role in this type of collapse. Especially if the rest of the team starts to question if they'll be treated the same way by Chicago's front office.

I just dont trust the Bear, never have, just something about them... As you have said also, things are not all that rosy up there in Bear Land. But this is football and playing with a chip in your shoulder is a good thing for a team. I think it comes down to the fact that the DT position might be a weak point and Cutler at QB IMO. I dont trust Cutler one bit and as long as he is the QB the other team can win. He reminds me of Trent Dilfer in that way. It did not matter how good the team was, if he was the QB you had as good a chance to lose as to win.

I just looked this up, only 3 times since 1943 have they had back to back playoff years (84-87, 90/91, 05/06). The Bears have won a playoff game in back to back years only Once since WWII. That was in 1984 and 1985, they went one and done in 84 and then won 3 in a row for the Super Bowl in 85. Not that this has ANY bearing on the 2011 season...

One thing that I noticed while looking up stuff on the Bears though... The Bears are on a nice streak of winning 11 or more games the first year after winning 11 games. If history is an indication then they Might Prove Me Wrong.
In...
1942 they went 11-0, in 1943 they went 8-1-1
1963 they went 11-1-2, in 1964 they went 5-9
1987 they went 11-5, in 1988 they went 12-4
1990 they went 11-5, in 1991 they went 11-5
2005 they went 11-5, in 2006 they went 13-3
2010 they went 11-5, in 2011 they will go...
NOTE - In 1992 they went 5-11

Anyways, season has started and for some reason I am not as sure about the Bucs as I was last year. Last Year I knew we were going 10-6, I just had a feeling. This year I have an ominous feeling, I hope it is just first week jitters...
