Well, that should be the end of the Tom Wilson discussion. :D

To switch gears, read the following thread. Jesse does some great analysis with video, and illuminates the schemes teams employ against each other. It's geared towards Pens fans but interesting for fans of both. Here's a good read (click for the thread):

Ahem.

And for my next act, I will provide a scientific analysis of the goaltenders in this series.

Pretty easy Murray needs this to stop a puck on his glove side:

Holtby is either this (game1 3rd period):

or
this (rest of series):

Trotz is no neck crap coach

/I heard Wilson got pissed at him one day at practice and went to give him a check but missed him completely as he couldn't tell where his head ended and his shoulders began

They went to it starting in game 4 of the Jackets series. They rolled a 1-2-2 before that and the Jackets were able to get to the middle.

I am not convinced that Torts noticed it when they switched it up.

With a big goalie like Holtby, it's a good plan. Keep the shots outside and he doesn't have to work as hard.

Agreed. Less cheap shots, and back to just straight up kicking your asses.

I like it! No self pity from Eloco. No complaining about DoPS inconsistency! Just focused on the game.

The Wilson thing is an unfortunate distraction, because otherwise a great series, especially games 1 and 3. Felt like OV robbed us of overtime last night though. Lazy bastard, didn't feel like playing more than 60min.

Tom Wilson tripping Maata certainly helped

He hid that very well and in reality Maatta probably never have been able to catch up so it didn't matter.
The real issue with that play was the horrible pass he made right before that, the soft backhand to the slot. That late in the game he should have went down the boards and got it deep.
Then Letang was awful on that 2 on 1, not that he could do much since he had to cheat for Ovechkin.

Anyway look forward to another great game tonight.

maybe an extra one for laughing about it.

I hate Tom Wilson as much as the next guy, but he was not laughing at the injury - he was laughing at the crowd booing him.

Let's keep the disdain for him grounded in reality. There's plenty of fodder there.

The fact remains it was a slew foot from a guy who should have been thrown out of the game earlier.

Ok, I can accept that, but you must admit it really looked bad at the time...picture Panarin lying on the ice bleeding and the player who did it laughing and grinning on the bench, you might jump to the same conclusion.

I despise Letang. Should have been made a forward 5 years ago. and Maata sucks

Oh, I agree completely. And would have encouraged Brandon Dubinsky to go onto said bench and remove his teeth.

But not just because of the laugh. Like I said, let's keep the hate grounded in reality :)

Caps will have to insert Travis Boyd, Nathan Walker, or Shane Gersich into the lineup. I really hope it's Gersich b/c he showed such flashes of brilliance in his few starts this year and his defensive fundamentals are so sound for a 21-year old. Plus, speed kills.

It would also give Brock Boeser a chance to continue a funny, social media bit the two have been doing for several years now.

We'll likely know after the morning skate what the lineup changes are and who gets his first start these playoffs.
