There is an article over at SB nation chronicling the Lakers trade activities. The article states the Lakers are inquiring about the availability of Iman Shumpert, a guard who has played point but has really good defensive skills and is somebody New York is shopping around the league.

Another player the Knicks are shopping is Tyson Chandler and the Lakers have inquired about a Gasol for Chandler deal that will have to be fit into the present cap situations for both clubs. The Lakers are again shopping Gasol and this deal has potential according to the article.

Both are interesting possibilities, imo. As we all know, defense is the biggest issue with this club and it's something that both would bring. The nice thing with Chandler is that he doesn't require the ball to be effective like Pau does.

Pau would fit nicely with the Knicks, imo, because in their offense he could spend most of his time in the post. He is also used to playing with a superstar who requires a lot of touches. I wonder if the salary cap would work in a Pau for Shumpert and Chandler deal and if the Knicks would be willing to give up that much for just Pau?

Hey TJF12. In another article at Yahoo Sports, the scenario you suggest has been discussed between the Lakers and the Knicks. The cap will determine who can go where but the Lakers are diligently trying to get Shumpert and Chandler for Gasol. I like this deal if they can work it all out. Gasol needs a change of scenery away from Don'tknowi anyways. Also, with the acquisition of Shumpert, Nash can take his time healing and we have another decent player for the point.

With Nash, the nerve-root irritation is just not going away and I suspect he'll be done in the next couple of months. Retirement is really knocking on his door. He is resisting but his body is telling him otherwise. I don't think we will see Nash again this year or in the future. He is pretty much done.

Also the prospects of having Chandler along with Kaman, Sacre, Hill, and Kelly, who played recently and looked pretty good has a real nice ring to it with youth and athleticism and some pretty good shooters and defensive guys as well. I hope this deal with Pau goes down. He really needs a change of scenery and Chandler really fits Don'tknow's scheme much better anyways.

I'm with you guys. Dude has nothing more to prove and at some point your body demands you hang 'em up. Lol can i still play ball in my 50's? Yep. Can i play it like i could in my 20's? Err...

At some point you become a liability. Hoping he realizes this...

That would be good for all involved, imo. One of those trades where both teams get what they need and get better.

Pau can take some of the scoring burden off of 'Melo (and actually make it easier for 'Melo to score) and the Lakers get better on defense.

I agree about Nash too. If he comes back (and it's starting to look like a big if) he won't need to play as many minutes. Once the Lakers start getting the PG's back, in "smallball" rotations, they can slide Kobe over to the 3, put Shumpert at the 2 and then Blake, Farmar or Nash at the point.

Lot's of possibilities. As much as I hate to see Pau leave, I think it would be good for him and good for the Lakers.

I can still play like I did in my 20's!! In fact, last night in my rec league, I was lighting fools up.

Of course it was 2:00am and I was sleeping at the time, but that still counts. Doesn't it?

question is who would they get....at the least I don't want him re-signed in offseason..but really depends on whos available. rumors of shumpert ....not sold on him really...good defender...6.6 points a game...I dunno about that. with gasol hes still a talented player that could revamp his career on a new team.

I'd rather just hold onto Pau and let his salary come off the books then make a trade for Chandler/Shumpert.

I don't buy that he is off the block. If the right kind of deal comes along, Pau's gone. The problem as you say turkey, is that the right kind of deal just may not be out there. Cap flexibility needs to be preserved, more so for the summer of 2015 though. I don't think the Lakers make the big FA splash this upcoming summer.

I think in light of the Kobe injury, they may re-visit the talks with the Knicks about Shumpert or re-sign Elias Harris. If Gasol's play goes south because Kobe is on the bench again, Don'tknowi will be frisking Short Buss and Mitch to make a move with Pau-AGAIN!

if it involves Pau and the Knicks, Chandler has to be involved. Not sure NY ' willing to move Chandler just yet. Here's a trade that could help everybody involved. 2 of the 3 teams reap financial help.

  • cavs: get Randolph from Grizs.
  • Grizs : get Pau.
  • Lakers : get Bynum, Bennet.from Cavs.
Cavs wanted to add a big man (went for asik) and don't want to have to rely on Bynum's knees (very up and down this year) It'll be a small lineup but if they want bigger they can always plug in Varejao. Randlolph's awesomeness in Cleveland would get the Cavs a playoff berth and get him an extension..

Grizzlies don't want to pay Zach. Getting Pau means they can get a PF replacement cheaper, around 11 mil next year. memphis is all about savings. Pau does that.

Lakers with Kobe done, get Bynum and Dantoni can shelf him or the Lakers can release him (6mil guaranteed this year, I think) in which case he can join his very good pal Pau in Memphis. Good deal for the Grizs. Bennet will then be out only contract going forward at 5 mil. Reasonable for a high draft prospect. Bennett's skillset should do well in D'antoni's offense as a PF.

Yea DimesD. Gasbag has expressed that a trade to the Griz would be "fascinating" and I think he wants to play with his brother before he retires.

Kaman had 19 points 10 Reb 3 Steals & 1 Blk, theres no need to play Gasoft anymore, I wouldn't even have him come off the bench, for what ? so he can come in with his head down like if his ex - girlfriend dumped him again, this dude is softer then a tampon. :L

Don't get me wrong I appreciated what he contributed to our 2 titles in this decade, but I'm pretty sure Mitch & even Jim Buss though his an idiot, can see that his time here is done. It would be a bad Idea just to let him walk away after this season & not get a bag of peanuts in return. Wake the fuck up Lakers & start making phone calls & send his ass packing, we could still get a nice deal for him maybe.

We Laker fans know the season is a wash no need to keep seeing a depressing washed up Gasoft leave his pitty on the Laker court in front off fans who pay big money, It's clear this guy needs to see a head shrinker ASAP, but not in LA.....FACT!!

Yea LALakerBoy. I agree. He has some sort of ashamed look about him and he is very apologetic with everything he does like he's about to burst into tears at any moment. Get him out of town and let Kaman and Hill start with Sacre and Kelly coming off the bench handle the bigs duties the rest of the way.
