As much as I love Pau have been against him being traded, it's probably time. Question is: What can the Lakers get for him?

Or do they just take whatever and consider it addition by subtraction?

:agree: this is exactly what i've been telling a lot of folks, just get whatever you can before he walks away next season.

Might be right. Try to trade him to a contending team (he deserves that much) for whatever they can get and it creates more playing time for younger guys.

Essentially, it would give back some of the playing time that Kobe just took away. It would mean going "small" a lot more often, but that seems to be when the Lakers are at their best anyway.

Now that Greg Oden is healthy and playing some minutes in Miami, maybe Pat Riley would like to swap Gasol for Oden straight up?

With the offense that the Lakers are running, it would be the same problem as with Gasol. Bosh would be a better fit.

Pau is out on the first airline he can find this offseason. With that being said, if you can get anything, even a 2nd round pick, do it.

And it hurts saying that as I believe that Pau is the worst treated basketball star maybe of all-time...

Ever heard of the salary cap? Rules prevent that deal. Surely you must be joking.

And the cap is the reason Pau's trade market is likely lukewarm. It's unlikely a bad team would want him because they're trying to stay bad for lottery purposes. Contenders would likely be interested but its a very good chance that those contenders are also over the cap. That means any trade made has to be equal salary. Whatever LA gets back will have to be equal to Pau's 19 mil salary this year. LA wants to preserve its cap space so it has to be very careful in who it takes back.

Anyone maybe thinking about maybe Byron Scott...?

Lol give the guy from MY high school a shot...

What worries about Byron is that his teams seem to play well for awhile and then things end badly. Not sure why that is, but it speaks to a problem with his approach.

Because he's not that good of a coach. Why go for Byron Scott when guys like George Karl, both Van Gundys (especially Stan), and a few other assistants are all better options?

As I've said, I'm going to be patient with this entire process, even D'Antoni. We've seen what his offense can do when it's being run the way it's designed. He needs more of his type of players.

I believe this season is basically being used for 2 things.

1.) See which of the young guys respond best to D'Antoni's system to determine who will be kept for the rebound.

2.) Let the expiring contracts expire or get traded.

After that, we will see many of these players leave and then we'll see more young, athletic players added over the next couple of seasons.

Will it work? We'll find out.

There is an article over at SB nation chronicling the Lakers trade activities. The article states the Lakers are inquiring about the availability of Iman Shumpert, a guard who has played point but has really good defensive skills and is somebody New York is shopping around the league.

Another player the Knicks are shopping is Tyson Chandler and the Lakers have inquired about a Gasol for Chandler deal that will have to be fit into the present cap situations for both clubs. The Lakers are again shopping Gasol and this deal has potential according to the article.
