I've been a fan of getting rid of back to back games for quite awhile now. At least back to backs where the second game is on the road. It sounds like a pretty lame excuse, I mean how bad could it be to play 2 games in a row? But the numbers prove otherwise. I don't know exactly what the number is, but someone had it either last year or the year before and the win percentage of teams playing on the road in the second game of back to backs is absolutely brutal. The league really needs to cut down on them IMO. It just makes for better hockey.

Miles travelled is one thing, but time zone changes have an even greater effect on player performance. I agree with Destroydacre that elimination of back-to-back games would be a great solution, but building availablity probably makes that very difficult to do.

That's the game. Injuries, quick turnaround and travel don't lead to wins. Not that I am making excuses but Carolina had a freebie today.

Less than 24 hours after a game at home, we have to fly down to Carolina and play. No surprise, we look like a heaping pile of dog shit so far, getting outplayed by the friggin Hurricanes.



P.S: Luke Schenn, you are fucking useless.

First off, I give full marks to Carolina for the win. Also, I make no excuse for the loss, but, it's is tougher to play two games in less than 24 hours. With that said, this might be a case where the CBC actually fucked the Leafs over in that I'm sure they kiboshed (or would have) any attempt to play the Saturday home game in the afternoon.
