Chris Johnson will be moving from quarterback to wide receiver in the coming year in a position change that undoubtedly is designed to clear a path to the top of the depth chart for freshman Jarrett Stidham (pictured). Stidham was quite the recruiting victory for Baylor head coach Art Briles, as the highly rated quarterback was once commited to Texas Tech. At one point a financial aid agreement with Texas Tech was even signed by Stidham.
It would appear the football-playing career of Georgia wide receiver Justin Scott-Wesley is over, but that does not mean he is stepping away from the game entirely. According to his high school football coach, Scott-Wesley is weighing his options with regard to football and may ultimately decide to stop playing.
“The vibe I got from him was that decision may have been out of frustration,” Dondrial Pinkins, Scott-Wesley’s high school coach, told theAthens Banner-Herald. “He’s in the process of talking (to trainers) about how he’s going to respond to the rehab. After that, he’ll see how he feels. If he’s able to play, he may play or he may just sit out. At this moment it’s all dependent on how his body feels.”

The return of Michigan State running back Delton Williams appears to be in the hands of the running back. According to a one report, Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio says the running back will be eligible to play for the Spartans in the season opener next week.
Hondo Carpenter of Spartan Nation reports the information from Dantonio came from a recorded interview that is scheduled to air on the radio Thursday night. Asked whether Williams would be eligible, Dantonio reportedly replied with an emphatic “Yes.”
Purdue will be hoping experience is the key for its new starting quarterback.Austin Appleby was named the starting quarterback for the Boilermakers by head coach Darrell Hazell. Appleby started seven games for Purdue last season, and he took the lumps that came with them. Purdue was 1-6 in games started by Appleby, but there was plenty of blame to go around with Purdue’s struggles last season. Appleby beat out redshirt freshman David Blough for the job.
Ohio State reportedly took a hit to its receiving corps on Wednesday.
According to a report from Cleveland.com, Buckeyes wide receiver Noah Brown “suffered what appeared to be a major leg injury.” Citing “sources close to the situation,” the report says the injury may be a broken leg “because a pop was heard when he came down from a jump.”
Brown, a 6-foot-2, 222-pound sophomore, was expected to be a big part of the Buckeyes’ high-powered offense this season.
According to several reports, media access following Wednesday evening’s practice was abruptly canceled.
East Carolina quarterback Kurt Benkert will miss the entire 2015 season due to a knee injury, the program announced Wednesday.
The news comes a week after Benkert, a redshirt sophomore, was announced as the Pirates’ starting quarterback.
According to a release from the program, Benkert “experienced discomfort after practice Tuesday.” After further testing, the severity of the injury was revealed Wednesday morning. The program did not provide specific details on the injury other than that it occurred in his right knee.
Washington State may be scrambling to find alternatives for its first game of the season because of wildfires in eastern Washington.
The record-setting wildfires have burned 200 homes as the area has not received its normal amount of rainfall. And the smoke from the fires have made the air quality unhealthy. If the air quality continues to be poor as the Cougars' game against Portland State on September 5 approaches, Washington State could be forced to move or postpone the game.
"We're watching it really close," Washington State athletic director Bill Moos told the Spokesman Review. "Of course we are concerned about the health and safety of our student athletes and our fans, as well as coaches and staff. I'm hoping we will get some relief with some rain. We're testing it every day."
Harbaugh confirmed during a press conference earlier in the day that Bryan Mone sustained a broken bone in his lower leg during a recent practice session. Harbaugh labeled the injury as “long-term,” intimating that the defensive tackle will likely be sidelined for the entire 2015 season.
Prized 2015 recruit Martez Ivey has been dealing with an unspecified leg injury that dates back to his high school days. The injury progressed to the point where medical intervention was necessary, with head coach Jim McElwain confirming that the offensive lineman will undergo arthroscopic surgery Friday.
With the season opener against New Mexico State nine days away, there’s no timetable for a return.
247Sports.com‘s Wes Rucker writes that “Jones said McNeil’s ‘life after football’ was going to be the program’s priority,” adding that “[c]oaches using phrases like that can be an ominous sign for a player’s future on the field.”
Whether the senior defensive back will be sidelined temporarily or permanently, it will serve as a huge blow to the Vols’ defense.
The past three seasons, McNeil has played in 36 games. He started 31 of those contests, including 24 the past two seasons.
First-year head coach Pat Narduzziconfirmed Wednesday that Rachid Ibrahim sustained an injury to his Achilles tendon in “one of those freak accidents that happens.” The injury, which occurred earlier this week, will sideline the running back for the entire 2015 season.
Earlier this month, and after he wassuspended for the first four games, it was confirmed that Bryant had been declared academically ineligible and wouldn’t play at all in 2015. While head coach Brian Kelly stated Bryant would be , the running back’s father stated that, even as he would be returning to classes at the school, he wouldn’t be reporting for summer camp.
However, the school part won’t come to fruition as Bryant posted on Instagram that he participated in his first practice Thursday at ASA Miami, a junior college in Florida and is coached by a former Notre Dame staffer.
Additionally, Bryant stated that he has decided to reopen his recruitment. While that doesn’t necessarily preclude a return to the Irish, it appears he will be looking in other directions to restart his FBS career in 2016.
