In a brief tweet posted to the football program’s official Twitter account, Tech confirmed that the Jacksonville, Fla., native has joined the Yellow Jackets. In order to satisfy NCAA transfer rules, Simmons will be forced to sit out the 2015 season; beginning in 2016, he will have three years of eligibility remaining.
In addition to Tech, North Carolina and Rutgers were rumored to be potential landing spots.
Simmons was a three-star member of the Trojans’ 2014 recruiting class. He took a redshirt as a true freshman.

Kevin Gladney never caught a single pass for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and he never will. Nebraska has dismissed the Class of 2013 receiver, citing simply in a brief release Friday afternoon the player is no longer with the team.
Gladney saw playing time in Lincoln on special teams, appearing in seven games last fall for the Cornhuskers. The Lincoln Journal Star notes he was expected to find himself in a competition for some playing time on offense this fall.
While taking time to answer questions at a Houston Touchdown Club luncheon Friday, Briles dropped one possible opponent to keep an eye on in the future schedule; Arkansas. Briles said “there’s a chance” Baylor could play Arkansas in a neutral-site game in Houston in 2019. That would be interesting to note, because according to FBSchedules.com Baylor’s 2019 non-conference slate is already full. So one of those games would have to be canceled or rescheduled. There is one game in particular that would be easy to wipe off the schedule; Incarnate Word on August 31, 2019.
Things did end so well for defensive lineman Ondre Pipkins at Michigan. Now he looks to end his college football days on a happier note at Texas Tech.
Pipkins will sit out the 2015 season and play his final season of eligibility for the Red Raiders, as reported by Joe Schad ofESPN.com Friday. Pipkins suffered a torn ACL in 2013. He did return to see some playing time in 2014 but claims hewas asked multiple times to sign a medical scholarship form that would have brought an end to his college football career. Not wanting to do that, Pipkins pursued other opportunities this offseason and appears to be ready to make the most of it.
“I believe they have the best plan for me. Now it’s all about executing the plan,” Pipkins told ESPN when discussing his decision to transfer to Texas Tech.
Pipkins previously told Schad he felt he was pushed out at Michigan underJim Harbaugh and the new coaching staff. Harbaugh denied those allegations and suggested he and his staff were only looking out for the best for Pipkins and his long-term future.

If you want to know how good things are in the Big Ten, take a look at the reported revenue share that was made payable to Purdue, then compare that with payouts from other power conference programs. Purdue reportedly received a payout from the Big Ten in the amount of $32 million. Not bad a for a college football team that won three games last year, and just four games over the past two years. It is also about $12 million more than Florida State received from the ACC for the past year.
The Big Ten revenue share to Purdue was reported by Lafayette Journal & Courier, and once again demonstrates the expected revenue stream Big Ten programs are currently working with. As with all of the conferences, revenue streams saw an increase across the board thanks in part to the addition of the College Football Playoff. Last month Michigan even adjusted their expected operating budget to reflect a projected increase in revenue share money from $32 million budgeted to $34.7 million. Purdue’s reported share is up $5 million from a year ago.
UCF football player Chris Williams is recovering in a hospital this weekend after being shot. The Orlando Sentinel reports theinjuries do not appear to be life-threatening, and UCF officials are still gathering information about the incident involving the defensive back.
Williams has been active on Twitter retweeting messages wishing him well during his hospital stay, which would appear to be a good sign. Williams took to Facebook to provide an update on his status as well, saying he had been shot in the arm twice.
Williams spent last season as a member of UCF’s scout team, using a redshirt year as a true freshman. In UCF’s spring game, Williams recorded 10 tackles and an interception, which was returned for 52 yards.
