Huskers eyeing 5-year extension with adidas : Latest Husker News
Nebraska and adidas have had a relationship with each other since 1995.
But their most recent contract, an eight-year deal agreed to in 2005, is nearing its end.
Are they sticking together?
It sure looks that way according to the agenda for next Friday's Nebraska Board of Regents meeting. One of the meeting's items will include a vote by the regents on a five-year extension of the contract with the company.
The potential five-year agreement with adidas has been reviewed and recommended by the Business Affairs Committee.
According to the agenda's explanation of the possible agreement, adidas would pay Nebraska the aggregate sum of $15.53 million for exclusive sponsorship over the five years -- with $8.03 million in cash and $7.5 million in athletic apparel and equipment products.
The last deal in 2005 gave Nebraska a guaranteed base sum of $22.875 million over eight years, which was thought to be one of the highest dollar figure apparel and footwear contracts at the time.
It's not quite the red carpet at the Oscars yet, but who a team's wearing has become of greater interest to fans in recent years, especially as programs allow apparel companies like Adidas, Nike and Under Armour more chances to design throwback and alternate jerseys.
Adidas designed alternate jerseys for both Nebraska and Wisconsin for last year's September game in Lincoln.
Other notable programs linked with adidas include Notre Dame, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Indiana, Cincinnati, North Carolina State, Mississippi State and Kansas.
