want to lift about 3 inches? that seem good enough?

Problem is, the lift itself is cheap, its the new tires I need to buy and the new wheels (as I think id need to ditch the stock and add all black wheels)

Body or suspension?
Never really liked body lifts. Suspension, if it increases travel and and frees up articulation.
3" sounds about right to me, not over the top. With bigger tires to get your axles up.

My old Wagoneer was lifted just 2 or 3 inches - the cheap way by changing the leaf springs. It looked a lot better but the ride was 2 inches bouncier.

Are you lifting it to gain ground clearance for 4 wheeling or just for looks?

My recommendation is to save your money. Slightly over-sized rubber on the rims will look real nice without draining the funds.

A lifted Tacoma wouldn't look good with anything smaller than 33's.

And you don't need new wheels, just Plasti-Dip your current ones.

I had 2 different K-5 Blazers (74 & 83) & didn't lift either. I put some 31x10.5 tires on the stock GM 15" Rallye rims and they both looked sharp. They sat up a bit taller, but didn't I doubt I gained lot on the ground clearance dept.

I had some fun running both of them up some trails around here with that rather tame set-up.

Don't go fucking with a perfectly good truck.
When cars and trucks stop making you feel good about yourself, then you know you've grown up.

I've never understood the need to modify trucks. They are after all just trucks.

But I'm pretty much all grown up and my cars still make me feel good about myself.
