You know what I just figured out this whole move this morning while watching Kay Adams :

The scouting department is Reggie McKenzie's team. Not Mayock's or Chuckies.

You don't fire the GM and the whole scouting department in December.
You can fire the GM and keep the scouts around for the whole draft combines and tape watching.

Mayock used to work for the NFL Network as a draft analyst.

He'll make all the selections.

I think Gruden is ultimately going to make all the picks. He has the final say on all roster moves. I am guessing Mayock will be advising Gruden on picks but in the end its Gruden's call

Let's say Arizona takes Williams as the #1 ( like they should best defensive guy in this class)

You have #5 TB & #6 NYG looking to move up and grab one of these QB's
while the #10 Den and the #11 Cin are already calling the Raiders to move up cause they know 5 and 6 are going to try to make the jump.

Then you have #13 Mia and #15 that could also jump up .

Basically the Raiders could very easily gain picks by moving out of that #4 spot have additional first rounder/3rd rounder next year plus get their edge rusher they truly need this year.

Nobody is walking away with franchise stud QB this year in the draft, wont happen none of these guys are that,
someone though will over pay, its common in the draft and the raiders can stock pile picks for the next two years!

What on earth makes you think Cincinnati is going to trade up? They have traded up in the 1st round like 1 or 2 times in the history of the organization and one of those was to go up to #1 overall and draft Ki-Jana Carter, who taught them a very valuable lesson.

Which makes sense since their defense is complete garbage!

They have two years to build this, they have multiple holes up and down their roster so why not play the drafts and move up and down and build a core group of guys that you can win with....

Lots of teams pare down of scout staff the closer they get to the draft. These scouts don't make a ton of money...somebody looking for insight could probably persuade somebody to leak something. Considering Gruden didn't wipe the scouting slate clean when they got rid of McKenzie, I can't really blame him.
