There are already two major threads here on the hoop for TWD, but I try to keep the comic-talk to a minimum there out if respect. But I also want to talk about the show AND comic and how they intersect without worrying about spoiling anyone, so that is the point of this thread.

Watching 4.2 tonight, it dawned on me that they are bringing in the "twins" arc from the Comic (Alan's kids). In the comic, one if them (don't remember if it was Ben or the other one) turned out to be a sociopath and killed some members of the group. I don't remember how, exactly (was it burning them? I thought the burning s were done by one if the inmates...). Anyway, when Rick found out, he could not do what needed to be done, so Carl went into their tent and blew the kids head off. The whole group was in shock, and Carl just said something to the affect of "it had to be done." (Side note, what happened to the other twin? Was he eaten by the Hunters? I think it may be time I re-read the comics...)

Anyway, so now we have these two girls introduced, and two members of the group are mysteriously burned to death. At the same time, Carl is trying to be more of a man in the adults eyes, while all he kids already see him as a scary bad-ass who is not one of them. At the end of the ep, Rick fully forgives Carl for his "transgressions" during the battle (which is BS, BTW, since Carl did exactly what he should have done).

In the next few eps, I think it will turn out that one of the girls (not sure who yet, but I am leaning towards the younger one) burned Karen and David, based on Carols teachings. The mid-season finale will be Carl executing the culprit after some kind if revelation that they did it because of Carol's teachings, which will rock her world.

Making the girls the murderers may be too much for TV, though. This may all be just a red herring, similar to Cara last week making people think the Hunters were getting introduced.

HE actually was found killing a cat by his brother and then his brother was found dead. They figured it was Ben or w/e and then locked him up in the back of a van.

yea, i was getting the same vibe after the girl's father was telling Carrol to raise them as her own... which is pretty much the same scene in the comics. Dying father asking Andrea to take care of his two sons as they were her own. I don't know if the youngest girl is going to be the culprit of feeding zombies and burning the bodies tho. seems like she wouldn't be tall enough to feed them or strong enough to pull the bodys out and light them on fire. then again... i've been wrong before

The talk about the Gov having a mole reminded me of Martinez's time in the prison in the comic. He helped Rick and Julie escape from Woodburry, only to escape shortly after getting to the prison in order to let te Gov know where te prison was located (there were no maps pre-ZA?).

Making Stookey the new mole would actually make some sense. In the comic, he was kind of like the Govs guard dog. Making him turn out to be similar in the show would make a lot of sense.

Yea, he was found all alone and was placed to get inside the prison. Stookey is the recovering alcoholic right? I could see him opening up the gates and letting the Governor in with new forces and forcing the group out like it played out in the comics.

What are your thoughts about the TV-fight vs the comic-fight and the tv-hammerfest vs the comic-hammerfest?

Both were WAY more epic in the comic (particularly the fight), but at least they addressed the Tyrese highlights. Unfortunately, there is really only one more Tyrese highlight from the Comics, and that would be a good way to re-introduce the Gov. With Abraham getting introduced in the second half of the season, I think Ty is gone in the next couple weeks.

The scenes in the comic were way crazier. I was happy to see Tyrese get to hammer the shit out of a bunch of zombies like in the prison gym. I had a good feeling he would survive knowing what had happened in the comics.

I'm just getting into the Negan portion of the comics. Holy shit! Poor Glenn!

Glenn didn't really feel anything. Poor Maggie. We haven't seen very much of her at all since (only about 15 issues, but still).

The Gov is back, but how does he announce his return to Ricks group? If they want to continue to bring scenes from the comics in, than Tyrese's days are numbered. However, Michone and Hershel just left the prison on a run, so maybe one of them takes Ty's spot.

Maybe they will skip that whole thing all together and go straight to the tank.

When you compare TV to comics in TV there are certain untouchable characters. When in comics you really can do what you want cause you dont have to worry about ratings and worry about attracting the casual fan. So with that said I think there are certain untouchable characters in the TV show obviously Rick is one. Darrell and Michone I think is developing into another

Add Carl to that list.

In the comic, Rick and Carl are untouchable. Everyone else is fair game.

As for the Gov announcing his return to the group, they obviously can't make it as graphic or gory as it was in the comic, but they can certainly do something big with him executing someone in front of the prison gates.

Suspects...

Tyrese - He was the victim in the comics. He is not a full cast member, which makes him extra vulnerable to a quick-death. Lately, they have been following his comic story rather closely.

Michone - She just left the prison with Hershel on a run. The Gov, ultimately, hates her more than anyone. However, she is a MAJOR character in the comics, so I doubt they off her this early (of course, that did not stop them from killing Andrea or Dale).

Hershel - Great character, but he did not make it out of the prison in the comic. I think he is more Dale than Hershel at this point, but Dale did not last long after the prison either. Hershel does not have much of a history with the Gov, so if they make him the target, it would feel kinda anti-climactic to me.

Glenn - They could pull a Negan but have the Gov in the Negan roll. If they plan on dragging out the Gov longer than this season, than OK, but I think killing Glenn needs to remain for the introduction of Negan (or they coud have Negan kill Darryl instead - Jesus could fill the hole left by Darryl at that point...)

Bob - Would be a cop out. Also, I think he is filling the Martinez-roll right now (Gov mole in the prison).

Carol - I sense she will be involved somehow, but I think she will be bait rather than the actual target.

My top two candidates are Tyrese and Carol. Carol would be more "shocking" since she is a more major character, but Ty makes a lot of sense due to how close to his actual storyline the show has been lately.

Anyone read 116? Interesting that Rick is using some of the tactics that the Gov used against him at the prison against the Saviors.

Holly is in deep shit. There could be another TOUGH issue coming where Negan totally fucks her shit up (think Michone v Gov, but with a r*pe angle added).

Are they developing the Governor angle for a spin-off show? Heard a rumor there will be basically two Walking Dead series next year.

I was disappointed the entire episode last week featured the Governor. A few scenes from the prison would have been nice. It looks like next weeks will be more of the same with Governor dominating everything. I love that he's back, but a little balance would be nice.

I think they are incorporating the Governor novels into the show right now. I have not read them, but I know that the girls he is with now were characters in "The Rise of the Governor".

As for the spin-off, Kirkman has said that it will completely separate with no character cross-overs. The current rumor is that it will be a semi-flashback, showing the cause and lead-up of the outbreak.

I am not sure I buy into this rumor though. Kirkman has said in the past that he will NEVER explain the cause of the outbreak. Also, I wonder how long a series would last dealing with the lead-up to the outbreak. This seems more like a movie idea than a series idea.

It has been spoiled that we will be seeing the tank in this next episode. We don't know if it will be used in the exact way it was in the comics, but it will certainly fall into the Gov's hands at some point.

I suspect this means the Prison is done by the mid-season finale. Makes sense with Abraham/Eugene/Rosita making their appearances by ep 10 or so. It would make sense for the group to rendezvous back at the Greene farm after the Prison is destroyed. The Abe-group was encountered at the farm in the comics...

In the preview, we saw the tank at the fence of the prison. Shit is about to get real.

I think this will be the culmination if the whole prison/Gov arc. Let the bloodbath begin.

Who will die?

Gov - In the comic, Lilly had the honors. I think Tara will do the deed in the TV show. She will shoot Beth and Judith and realize who "Brian" really is.

Beth/Judith - See above. Judith needs to go. I kinda like Beth, but she has become the surrogate Laurie, so she is gone.

Hershel - I think he takes Tyreese's spot.

Bob - He is the mole. Does Rick somehow run over him in the Hyundai? Or will Daryl get the gig?

Watching one of the previews again, there is a scene with a blood-spattered Gov with a forest behind him.

Maybe they will do the whole Tyreese scene, with the graphic-ness included. Still not sure who will sit in on the Tyreese position there, yet. It is looking like it will be either Ty or Hershel.

You are correct sir, I can see them using Hershel being the bait since it was Ty and Michonne who were captured in the comics. Hershel and michonne are seen by themselves and i'm sure they'll be captured.

So Hershel officially took Ty's seat in the final prison battle. While I wanted Hershel to fulfill Dale's spot against the Hunters, having him lose his head to the Gov' was a good ending as well.

I think it is clear now that the two girls are filling the roles of Ben and his brother. Will they have Carl kill one of them like in the comic? I wasn't expecting them to actually show the Gov beheading Hershel, so maybe they will show Carl's coming-out scene.

Here are the groups as they stand now...

Rick and Carl

Tyrese and the kids (Judith??)

Daryl and Beth

The bus (Glen and Sasha are on the bus?)

Michone is alone?

Maggie???

I am thinking their emergency plan was to meet-up at the farm, and they will find Carol there. Wasnt Rick and Carl on the road for a while before they got back to the farm? I dont remember exactly how all the different parties met back up after the battle. Did they find Isiah before or after the farm? I know he was there for the Hunters...

It has been reported that Morgan will be back this season. Hopefully he joins the group for good (or at least for a while). Michone needs to git her groove on... I wonder if they will combine Isiah and Morgan into one character. I can see the Morgan from "Clear" turning into a preacher-like character who has found his new purpose in the ZA. Morgan's death in the comic was pretty anti-climactic, and Isiah has become less than an extra, so they should not be difficult to combine.

Yeah, they all met up at the farm. Rick and Carl holed up at a house while Rick was recovering (a tease scene for the second half of the season shows Carl yelling at a passed out Rick to wake up, straight from the comics). They end up running into Michonne and then run into Maggie and Glenn who were riding horses.
