i wonder if Gillis's plan on draft weekend was to trade schnieder for the 9th overall and edler to carolina for the 5th overall (was that where they were) and begin the rebuild in a softer fashion. getting 2 top 10 picks in a deep draft would put us right back in the futures game. with both corey, edler and ballard off the books they could have signed a solid UFA on D or forward since our D is deep still. hmm

Doubtful and I'd say the hell to backups in years past was that Marty played so many friggin games their careers died on the vine. NJD haven't really had anything but butterfly G backing him up in years.

I think the bigger issue is the d getting used to a G who doesn't play the puck as much/well as Marty
