And honestly? It's shown that it's damn close to being a BIG hockey town. Obviously it's at a bit of a disadvantage in the South, but it's the only professional team in town, and they compete, they're in a conference that brings in GREAT talent. I don't know much about the area, but I imagine it's a great place to live. Looks pretty awesome to me. They do really well with the budget they have, but they're at a competitive disadvantage, and they'll never get to that final stage until guys commit.

Preds are barely a blip on the radar down yonder. They are still way down in terms of interest behind the Titans and college football.

So Pavelec essentially got KHL money without having to go to the KHL (he still has to pay taxes though).

NHL free agents a thin crop this year - The Globe and Mail

Not including the players who didn’t receive qualifying offers on Monday (as the names haven’t all been released), there are 145 players who played 20 or more games last season that are scheduled to become UFAs on Sunday at noon.

The positional breakdown of that group, via capgeek.com: nine of those are goaltenders, 49 are defencemen, 29 centres and another 58 as wingers.

Those UFAs make up 19.9 per cent of the league that played 20 games last season, a number that could grow slightly as more names join the list after not receiving qualifying offers.

I have a feeling the Devils let Bryce Salvador walk with the D depth that they have and somebody will vastly overpay for him with the lack of quality D available. He's an aging physical defenseman with below average speed. To expect the quality of play he had in the playoffs is a very dangerous trap for teams to fall into.

Jackets gave qualified offers to Boll, Nikitin and Mayorov.

Nikitin because, well he's good. Mayorov to retain his rights while he apparently plays in Russia (ugh), and Boll because Howson is scared of him.

They let three guys I barely heard of walk. Including a goalie. Well, when you have eleventy billion mediocre ones, you can afford to drop one.

The Isles qualified 8 guys & let 4 walk. The most important guy to get qualified was Matt Martin. I'm glad they qualified Mikko Koskinen for Goalie depth. He might play in Europe again this season. Justin Dibennedetto & Rhett Rakhshani were qualified, but have deals in Europe.

Bobby Mac is getting pissed at people who use fake twitter accounts:

Reminder, esp leading up to July 1, it's silly season, when # of loser DBs with no lives create fake Twitter accounts to post nonsense.
